Comments from our readers:

THIS IS TO THE GOP: Quit blaming and start doing what is good for the country and not for your own greed and selfishness. That is exactly why Obama beat McCain by a landslide in electoral votes.

THE NEWS REPORTS that Obama's health care bill would end denial or cancellation of coverage and that "insurers (could) no longer base premiums on a person's medical history." Since when does government have the authority to meddle in private contracts? It doesn't. Somebody who doesn't like what an insurance company offers can look for other insurance companies. That's called a free market.

LINDSEY GRAHAM was just reelected in 2008 by a landslide. Obviously nobody in South Carolina wants him out in 2014. He will win again.

LINDSEY GRAHAM ran a near flawless scam on the people of South Carolina and the U.S. with the masterly way he conned us all and ended up helping Obama get Sotomayor on the Supreme Court.

WILL WE EVER GROW UP and realize that you don't "transition eighth-grade" kids "slowly to high school"? A student completes a grade satisfactorily, then goes up to the next grade. Period. Trying to make it easier only makes it harder in the long run.

WHAT IS IT THAT HOVERS over this city? As a retired serviceman I have yet, in the 17 years that I have lived here, to see what keeps race at the forefront of everything that happens. When I go out in this city I do not see where anyone has room to point a finger. Every race in this city has issues. Take the political arena. It has nothing to do with the issues. It has everything to do with color of skin because there is nothing that is going on and being discussed that was not there a year ago.

WE SHOULD HAVE HOPE that our new president will do some good for our country. We need to stop complaining and thinking the worst. I have hope in our country and in Americans, but reading this section of the paper often makes me question that. Please be more positive.

I CHALLENGE EVERYONE in Harrisburg to stop being afraid and to join with the concerned citizens of Harrisburg to fight the good fight. Your community needs you right now. Together we will make Harrisburg better than it ever has been.

MY SON IS GOING to Cedar Ridge Elementary, where there are over 900 students. Down the street at Euchee Creek they have around 350. Why hasn't someone admitted the system messed up when drawing the zoning lines and fix the problem? Redraw the lines. Sure, some parents will complain about having to switch schools again, but what is best for the children?

I will tell you when the

I will tell you when the government started having the right to greatly meddle....when Obama became commander in chief. the government owns some of our banks, financial institutions, and car companies and Obama is flat out telling them and many other businesses exactly what to do. You really think that won't happen with health care, give me a break. We continually here how poorly our GI's are treated and what poor medical care they receive from our government and they are the ones who protect us - do we really want the government running health care. Even if the answer is yes, how in the world do you think this could possibly be funded, we are in debt now. It didn't last in Massachutes, doesn't work well in other countries and isn't needed here. Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who are not. - Thomas Jefferson

GOP, what is that? Could ask the same thing about the Democrats. Greed attributed to Repubs? Have you checked out how many of the CEO's on Wall Street etc, and their underlings contributed to the Dems? For starters, check out Madoff. Then check out the big contributors to the northeastern Dems.

to the ranter with "hope". We

to the ranter with "hope". We all PRAY that this president will do the right thing. But apparently, so far all he is doing is making this country become poor and poverished as quickly as possible so that his "own" real country will be able to over power us americans and turn us into a hitler type government. he sticks his nose in un-necessary territories. that is why I BEAR ARMS!!! as MY given right...to defend me and mine when that time tries to come.

I just want to be the first

I just want to be the first to thank President Obama for keeping us safe and the economy is turing around. We knew it would be a slow process taking 2 to three years just in time for re-election. The Feds expressed confidence in the measures that our president have put into effect. We are going to be patient and give his plan time to work. With health care reform, the president will be 3 for 3. Good batting average. He really inherited a mess. If he turn it around he will be the best president ever in our country. We are very proud of his 27/7 efforts. I knew he could do it. A real tiger in the whitehouse. What a lovely first family for our country. HELLO! HELLO!

The word of the year is transparency. Why is it now everything is transparent? There is nothing that is transparent. No one tells anyone everything its human nature. In reality, dealing with people and their motivations, nothing is transparent.

To the first ranter. Do you

To the first ranter. Do you actually believe the democratic party is interested in the benefits of all US Citizens? The Dem's are pandering to those who cannot and will not help themselves. What we need is a work for food health care and shelter program. Not a sit around for food health care and shelter program. Why is it the majority of the crime in our nation is in and around government subsidized areas?

The political fear mungers on

The political fear mungers on the right will pull out all the stops to find or even make up "wrongs" for the sake of freightening and hopefully winning over those not competent enough to seek the truth for themselves. While not a fan of cash for clunkers or even many aspects of the healthcare reform measures being taken - I am not ready to run in circles screaming the sky is falling the sky is falling and it's all Obama's fault. People seriously need to calm down for a minute, breathe and try to channel their more reasonable and logical selves. I have seen abolutely nothing that would make me cry hysterically and believe the government is going to somehow purge the country of old people.

Postmaster General John

Postmaster General John Potter's base salary climbed to $265,000 last year from $186,000 in 2007. He also received a performance bonus of $135,000. In all his total compensation -- salary, bonuses, retirement benefits and other perks -- topped $850,000, a spokesman with the U.S. Postal Service stated. Where is the outrage from Obama? He and Pelosi went crazy over Auto makers and banks bnouses (which frankly I agreed with them) but yet the feds are in even worse shape. Before Obama tackles taking on new programs without even fully knowing the costs associated with them, etc. why doesn't he try to get the government back under control and cut our waste such as this? Read the article for yourslef of you our taxes paid a govt. employee in a fainling agency tripple what we pay our President...http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/18/postmaster-general-gets-pay-bonus-agency-falters/

I don't need the GOP to tell

I don't need the GOP to tell me about healthcare nor do I need the Dems to call it a GOP thing when people complain. The fact is they are all bankrupting this country to provide a healthcare plan that will be nothing but waste and trouble. I hope that everyone wakes up and throws out every last representative and senator and that sorry excuse of a president that thinks everything has to be done as an emergency just so he can get swift approval without anyone reading that BS he hopes to pass. His shoot from the hip with no real facts way of running a country has brought nothing but trouble that he then denies he created. Had he taken time to formualte a healthcare plan and given the economy some time to recover there problably wouldn't be half as many people protesting.

Martinez, I was speaking of

Martinez, I was speaking of The Great Society! Which is a program introduced and supported by the democrats. Since implemented, the program, has only increased our welfare state and crime rates. Obama is only adding more to the program. Did the Great Society benefit the US? I do believe in temporary government assistance. While on government assistance, people should be required to work for their benefits.

To the 5th Ranter.. I agree with you completely however, no child has to complete anything satisfactorily anymore.. I know a child right now that has not completed a grade on his own in @ least 3 years.. It is called the no child left behind and it is the worst thing that we could have ever done for our growing futures..

Why is it that we are hearing

Why is it that we are hearing a lot more about Lindsey Graham than we are about Cream DeMint? Maybe it is because Senator Graham knows enough to facilitate change when it is the right thing to do and Senator Cream DeMint is just too right to know anything.

The Obama/Pelosi healthcare

The Obama/Pelosi healthcare plan is the typical Liberal approach to national problems....Lowest Common Denominator. The want to do the same thing to healthcare that the liberals have done to education. They want to bring the entire system down to the lowest level so that the masses get the same care regardless of how much the individual pays into the system. It's the Lowest Common Denomiator theory of re-distributing wealth. Everybody in Russia, Cuba, England, and Canada gets healthcare but NOBODY gets the latest, the best, medicines. Nobody gets timely access to specialist and specialized procedures. Nobody gets the BEST care. That is what Americans need to ask themselves because that is the mandatory outcome of implementing socialized medicine in this country. Every country in the world who have tried this have resorted to rationing and long waits for procedures. NOBODY GETS THE BEST CARE just like none of our kids get the BEST EDUCATION because we have lowered the standards to the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR.

Hey, there's a new phrase

Hey, there's a new phrase "lowest common denominator". Let's turn this into a Math lesson so that we can improve our test scores. What is the lowest common denominator of 728? Work that out amongst yourselves, and it might help those who worry a lot because it's a sure bet that they will take longer to solve the problem, thus using their brains (what little they have) to solve the math problem. And you effite eliteist liberals, no helping the mad and angry Mathematicians!

You are so right justmaking

You are so right justmaking it. I know a child who has failed the sixth grade twice even with tutoring. This not because he can't do the work but because he won't turn in completed assignments and won't study or do classwork. yet he starts seventh grade Monday. When the parents questioned the school about this they were told "he would do better if he was promoted with his peer group", and "we can't hold him back because of 'no child left behind'". If you can't or won't do sixth grade work how can you be expected to seventh grade work?
