Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

A RANT TO PARENTS who believe lifeguards are baby sitters. They are not. They are paid to guard the lives of the people in the pool, not the children who are camped there all day, every day while their parents act as if the pool is a baby-sitting service. As someone who works from home I cannot go to my pool during the day, too many unruly children, no parental supervisor and a 16-year-old left to watch all of them. Take responsibility for your own kids.

LIFEGUARDS ARE NOT paid to watch your child. They are there in case of an emergency. So, yes, other parents are being forced to watch your child so you can run your errands. Leave them at home or take them on the errands and let us enjoy the pool.

THE PERSON WHO said that south Augustans use their signals properly is mistaken. Hardly anybody uses signals. I'm right at the corner here and I see it and they don't even stop. Further, there's a great big pothole up on Richmond Hill and Lumpkin Road. Come and fix it soon, please.

RANT TO ASU for losing full-time professors. If it would cancel the construction of brick crosswalks all around the campus, there would be enough money to save some of these positions.

I LOVE CHILDREN and have two of my own. However, there is a time and place for kids under the age of 5. One place that is not the best place is a church worship service. The child is too young to understand the message, so he or she is bored. A fidgety and/or crying child is a major distraction to others in the service, including the pastor. Some poor parents spend the entire service trying to quiet the child, so the parent does not enjoy the message either. Please, put your child in the nursery where there are age-appropriate activities until he or she is old enough to sit quietly in the sanctuary.

To the ranter about the

To the ranter about the children in church service-- I believe to a certain degree it goes back to the home... Teaching the child early on that they are expected to behave a particular way in certain places. If you allow your child to run wild and free all around house, with limited restrictions, they will do the same when they are out in the public, church service included. Then you try to make them hush and be quiet and they don't understand what's the problem....lol My parents didn't have any problems out of me when we were out in public.... if it appeared that I was about to act up, all my mother had to do was give me the eye....lol

*I LOVE CHILDREN* To the

*I LOVE CHILDREN* To the person that thinks a five year old does not belong in service.... I cannot believe this is how our world thinks?? Yes, a five year old does belong in a church sanctuary during a one hour service. I have two children ages 7 and 6 that have sat through church services since day 1. I used the "cry room" when they were itty bitty and needed to nurse, fuss,TLC. We went from the "cry room"(3 mos old) straight to the sanctuary. Parents need to man up and discipline thier children. My children know there will be consequences to their actions. If a child is misbehaving during service and the parent does not handle it then the Elder of the church is next in line to handle the child(parent also)! How embarrasing to have someone else handle your problems?? It is a problem with most churches today and an even bigger problem with parents who have no clue on how parent.

our church has a service for

our church has a service for the children during the sermon. it really works out well. i understand where this parent is coming from because it IS distracting when parents have children that wont behave.
however, i think it is a very important to handle matters such as this with compassion. if someone is going through a hard time and comes to church "searching", and their child begins to misbehave, we need to help instead of judge. try to look through the eyes of GOD everytime.
