Rants and raves

Comments from our readers:

THIS IS FOR THE PERSON who said that board of education employees get paid for nothing. Come into the old cafeterias and see how we work with no fans and no air blowing while we serve food to your bad kids. Now that's called a sweatshop.

CALLING IN REFERENCE to the editorial Wednesday about the disgraced Nancy Pelosi. She disgraced herself a couple of months ago when she said in California that she would let all the illegal aliens into this country. That's disregarding the laws of the United States. She should have resigned when she made those statements. Most definitely she's got to resign now, or else be impeached.

THIS IS A RANT against the editorial Wednesday about Nancy Pelosi. No one knows what was said in that meeting with the CIA. You don't know if they told the truth, shaded the truth, or perhaps said that waterboarding was approved but was not being used at the time. I think you need to stick with the facts. Most people think waterboarding is torture.

TO THE PERSON who said that cats are pests: I bet that you're a pest to have as a neighbor.

I SEE WHERE Hillary Clinton wants to send $110 million to Pakistan for emergency aid. When is Washington going to start sending emergency aid to Social Security and Medicare?

TO THE PERSON ranting about unwed/single mothers: Shame on you for showing your ignorance. Some single mothers have been raped, widowed and divorced. Not all got pregnant by being irresponsible.

THE DEVELOPERS of Marshall Square have long argued that their plan was to build an "upscale" retail and residential complex at Evans Town Center. Now they're suing Columbia County for obstructing their development of low- and moderate-income housing on the site. So their real plan finally comes to light, not that it's any surprise to us. Next time, go buy land in an area where the people are a little more gullible.

FEW AMERICAN LEADERS know how to do anything sensible nowadays. A group from South Carolina wants to revitalize once-thriving areas around Graniteville. Good idea. But they start right off wanting $800,000 (still a heck of a lot of money) just to "assess" the situation. Then they say the "revitalization" will cost $200,000. In other words, it'll cost more to "assess" than to revitalize. They hope to get all this money from the federal "stimulus" plan, which is not even real money, and the cost will be borne by taxpayers.

I love the one who said "I

I love the one who said "I think you need to stick with the facts. Most people think waterboarding is torture." Did you take a poll of every single person and can you document as fact that "most people" think waterboarding is torture?? Waterboarding was a last resort when all other forms of interrogation didn't work. People like forget we are dealing with people who would literally cut your head off if given the chance! Sorry, I have no sympathy!

Actually, shamrock, I saw a live MSNBC poll, and the vote was 56% against it, 37% for and the rest undecided.

Ooooooo...an MSNBC

Ooooooo...an MSNBC poll....now THAT makes it fact! There is absolutely no way MSNBC skewed the stats by polling certain demographics, is there? Nah. Fox News would do the same thing, would they? Nah. We can trust the media to give us the truth and nothing but the truth, right?

OOOOOOH! A live poll! Now

OOOOOOH! A live poll! Now that really cements it. I'm convinced! GAC, ask any statistics professor, news outlets can make the results of those polls appear any way they want. Please, stop quoting media polls as fact. Be independent minded and go get the "facts" for yourself.

Unpublished

RANT: Cheney's former CoS is a convicted felon serving time in federal prison, but the AWM failed to question him about how ol' Scooter is doing these days. A former Chief of Staff convicted and the former VP is viewed as credible? With whom? Criminals maybe... His pals are convicted felons and nothing is asked of how much he knew. Having friends in jail, Cheney's view about anything should be suspect.

GAC - Webster's defines the

GAC - Webster's defines the word poll as a "questioning or canvassing of persons selected at random or by quota to obtain information or opinions to be analyzed." Webster's defines fact as "a piece of information presented as having objective reality." What I am saying to you is simply this: a poll is a sampling of individual opinion. Due to its nature (subjective), there is no way opinion can be presented as fact. Therefore, what you could have said is MSNBC took an opinion poll; a certain percentage of those persons polled are of the opinion waterboarding is torture. You agree with that opinion.

Folks, American jails are

Folks, American jails are FULL of people who were convicted without the use of waterboarding. What makes it needed at any other time? Crimes are stopped without it. Obama is right, we MUST be the example that we profess to be. Nobody ever said that doing the right thing didn't hurt, but doing the easy thing always does.

Justus4 - by your logic,

Justus4 - by your logic, Pres. Obama must share the views of Rev. Wright just because he considered him a religious mentor. Which, I agree, would be absurd. It is fine if you do not hold the Republican political point of view but, please, do not lump a group of individuals all together as criminals based on the bad behavior of one. To do so, simply, is not fair and accurate.

1941 - that is his OPINION.

1941 - that is his OPINION. Mr. McCain believing such does not make it fact. GACopperhead, why are you getting so defensive? Secondly, our society uses EVIDENCE (provable, objective...fact) to convict criminals.

Water boarding is a joke when

Water boarding is a joke when it comes to being called torture. We have so many bleeding heart dumb azzes in this country it is pitiful. Heck do what Nancy wants let all the Aliens in this country. Maybe them we will have a country that will rise up overthrow Obama and any other president, take over power. Start cutting people’s heads off like the do in other countries and when you are dumb enough to whine about the torture the only thing they will hear and see steel eyes looking at them and calling next. If you want to see torture go to Saudi, Paky, Iraq, Iran and such, and we are allowing hundreds of thousands foreign nationals into this country that practice radical Islam. Before long you bleeding heart liberals will see what torture really is. 911, Oklahoma City, the first world trade center basement bombing, the Cole are only minor compared to what is coming if it is not stopped.

GAC - We are not talking

GAC - We are not talking about crimes and US citizens. We are talking about WAR, plain and simple. Follow "the rules" if you want. I would rather some fundamintalist [filtered word]think he is drowning (not actually drowning) than allow thousands of lives to be lost. If you could ask those in the Twin Towers the question "Would you approve of waterboarding high ranking terrorists if it would have saved your life?" what do you think they would say? RAISING MY HAND 1941 - I've been waterboarded in a mock POW camp during training in the Army.

justus4 - Then we should assume that you are no authority either. I'm sure you as well as some of us here have known and/or associated with someone who ended up going to jail for one thing or another. By your standard, none of us, including you if you know anyone like that (an old schoolmate you hung out with or whatever) can be believed.

Also, if you asked the

Also, if you asked the families of those lost, especially those tortured by having to decide to jump or burn what do you think they would say about waterboarding? I don't think it is fair for anyone to say that waterboarding should not be used unless YOU have been PERSONALLY AFFECTED by losing someone close to you in the war perpetrated on the American people. I know a few people who were against capital punishment until they had someone close to them murdered, then suddenly they were FOR capital punishment. It's amazing how a single incident can change your perspective.

As to the last rant, the

As to the last rant, the amount to revitalize Graniteville was 200 million dollars, not 200,000. As far as using the stimulus money, Obama can just print more money, same with the 110 million dollars Clinton wants to give to Pakistan. Soon the dollar will not be worth anything.

No polls can be considered

No polls can be considered reliable. They are a sampling of people and if done randomly then you could just be polling one demographic more than another or it could be purposly skewed to give the desired outcome. The only way to have an accurate poll is to ask EVERY SINGLE PERSON the same exact question in the same exact manner. And even then you have to wonder if they answered based on their perception of what they thought the pollster wanted to hear. So I don't think ANY poll can be 100% or even 70 to 80% accurate.

Memorial Day is not just for the Military. It is time to reflect of all that have passed on before us. I spend this time honoring my Grandparents, Father, Brothers and other loved one, that are no longer here in the flesh.
