Rants and raves

I CAN'T BELIEVE someone complained about the "Fat Lady" headline. It's a well-known fact that female opera singers tend to be on the hefty side.

I WOULD LIKE to put in a grateful rave for Michael, who went out of his way to help my husband and I when our fan quit running while on post. Thank you, Michael. We will always remember your kindness. Please put this in the rave column. This young man is a wonderful man and has spent four tours in Iraq.

I want to know why they won't bring down the grocery prices so we can get more stuff that we need instead of just picking over a few things.

MY PET PEEVE is people that leave political stickers on their cars long after the election is over, especially the presidential election, and further than that, the people that voted for McCain. It's over. McCain's probably not going to run in 2012. So please take them off.

JUST WANTED TO SAY thanks to the gentleman who found keys in the Hill Station Post Office on Stovall Street and returned them to me. Thanks again for your kindness.

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND the law. If Michael Vick had killed a human being he would have been out of jail and playing football again, but killing a dog you get more time than you do for killing a human being.

YOU KNOW THERE'S something wrong in this country when Bernard Madoff can sit in his luxury apartment after robbing thousands of people and ruining thousands of peoples' lives, but yet don't you get caught smoking marijuana. We'll put you in jail.

IF AUGUSTA PUT security cameras everywhere on Broad Street and Walton Way and all the other busy areas downtown, we would all have a safer city.

REGARDING ALL THE retired teachers that are being let go. I say: "Tough luck." They were already taking way too much of the taxpayers' money by being able to claim retirement and continue to work for a salary. It's unfortunate that they lost their jobs, but it had to happen.

IF SHERIFF RONALD STRENGTH and the commissioners know who the gangs are that are causing all these problems at these teen clubs, why don't they pick up the Harrisburg Posse and Southside Boys that are causing all of these problems? Why should the kids that are trying to have a clean good time suffer for what these gangs are doing?

THE MANAGERS OF movie theaters in the area need to start doing their jobs and start making sure that disabled people are allowed to have the proper seats in their theaters.

Want security cameras

Want security cameras downtown then lets the merchants and their associaton pay for them, not tax payers. The mall as well as shopping centers, etc. all have the same problems as downtown but they all hire special duty deputies, add cameras at their own expense and provide for additional lighting. Downtown already has deputies assigned to them at the expense of the tas payers, lighting wich is paid for by the tax payers, and parking areas, again, paid for by the local tax payers. If downtown is not self supportative, then it isn't needed. The government is not here to solve every problem for everyone and especially not for business owners making profits. Why do downtown businesses deserve more than the rest of Augusta businesses who in reality bring in far more taxes for the county that downtown ever will.

In the words of Thomas

In the words of Thomas Jefferson..."You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

folks get a grip on the

folks get a grip on the Michael Vick thing. HE will be back in his mansion with his Lamborghini and his millions soon enough. I just hope that the public remembers that he is a man who took advantage of animals for his personal pleasure Yes he will play football again, (Oakland is licking its chops waiting for him)but we will never let the NFL loving public forget what type of man he is.

This was my message to Milton

This was my message to Milton Ruben: "Your family might be growing, but so is public distaste for your Toyota egg add that dominates almost every Augusta Chronicle on-line page. Just look at the Rants and Raves comments for the last few days and you will see what people are saying about it! In my case, I can assure you that my 2007 Toyota Highlander which was purchased at Toyota of Augusta, will not have routine service work like oil changes done at Milton Ruben."

Those that have the McCain

Those that have the McCain stickers just want you to know that it's not their (our) fault when things go further south with the current administration.

I have never seen this egg

I have never seen this egg that is being raved about. I use firefox for my browser, maybe it filters it out. "As it is", your comments about the government giving and taking are right on, reminds me of the story of the "Little Red Hen". While I do not condone animal fighting, I think it is animal abuse and vile, it never ceases to amaze me how much value people will put on the life of an animal, but on the other hand think it is fine to kill humans in the womb with abortion! They also worry more about a Sturgeon fish in the downstream river than they do about having water upstream for humans to use. Most municipalities that get their drinking water from the lake, have had to move their intakes closer to the middle of the river in order to keep them covered with water. "Overburdened taxpayer", I agree with you, and if I want to leave the political stickers on my car, that's my business. I don't see any difference in that than the stickers the dealers put on the car advertising where you bought it from. Well, Ive had my say, I'm going back to bed!

And the Silverado will

And the Silverado will definitely need the service, considering the sorry state of American autos vs. imports.

next time your at a toyota or

next time your at a toyota or nissan dealership or any foriegn car dealership take a walk through the service dept ,you will see the same problems that american shops have ,there are engines and transmissions laying around, and a bunch of well paid mechanics.problems with foriegn cars are not publicised like american cars ,the press just lays in waiting for a u.s. manufactor has a recall ,i ll bet you didnt know toyota has had the most recalls in the last 3 yrs. oh buy the way ,my silverado has almost 300,000 miles on it and has given excellent service .i know of plenty of american cars and trucks with well over 100,000 miles on them that still run perfect.my 2004 chrysler sebring has 164,000 miles on it ,and i would not be scared to hop in and drive across the country in it.
