Rants and raves

A HUGE RANT FOR THE Georgia Department of Education and the U.S. Secretary of Education! The Georgia students come up a few points short in the CRCT fiasco, and they are told to attend summer school. The schools all across the state come up short in testing requirements for No Child Left Behind and the Secretary of Education gives the schools and teachers a free pass by lowering the minimum acceptable standards statewide. If you're holding students to a high standard, then do the same for schools!

ALL MY LIFE I'VE been told that it would be easier for any black man to be elected president than for a white woman to be elected. This campaign m a y prove that.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE concept of printing the online Rants & Raves. It's like walking in after the movie has already started. You have to be there from the start to understand the topic.

RICHMOND PUBLIC SCHOOLS say they have suffered a "shortfall" in the budget. Notice that word; it sounds so constrained and benign. Yet what it means is that somebody in authority blew $13 MILLION, gouged out of the taxpayers. "Shortfall" is a euphemism for "short." It's a term used to make an unpleasant word sound more pleasant. Watch your backs around people who spout euphemisms.

A RANT TO COLUMBIA COUNTY development officials. When do we get a bookstore instead of more restaurants? The aversion to knowledge is also reflected in the "hollow" library - all show and no quality books. Or is it an entertainment facility?

THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN, that should only be allowed to function beginning three weeks before Election Day, has now run for several years and several HUNDRED million dollars in ad spending. And guess who makes the money? The same people who refuse to STOP covering the same-old, same-old campaign nonsense 24 hours a day. The only winners are the big media; the losers are the rest of us.

STORY SAYS: "Atlanta has turned to the private sector for (school) funding." Wake up, taxpayers! The private sector funds EVERYTHING. Government produces NOTHING and has NO money other than what it takes from us under the threat of a court sentence.

FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW we have had three U.S. senators feeding their own egos and completely failing at the jobs they were elected to do, namely serve the constituents of the states in which they were elected. Oh, they take the fat paychecks and benefits, but has any one of these three -- Obama, McCain or Hillary - hit a lick.

How can an adult bookstore

How can an adult bookstore sue for loss of revenue if the good people of Augusta has shown they dont want them. who would shop there? preverts and freaks? Let see 5 years loss thats about two hundred and fifty dollars. We should sue them for wasting the taxpayers money. How can a federal court order us to allow it to open? This is where the goverment goes to far. I dont care what the federal judge orders. Tell the judge to allow them to open around the corner from their kids school somewhere between their kids school and the local church. See how the judge likes having it around his kids. See how he likes passing it on the way to service's. enough is enough! lets sue X-Mart for wasting taxpayers money....

Great suggestion about having

Great suggestion about having a bookstore in Columbia County. The ranter is right...we do not need more restaurants in CC, although they are all filled on Friday nights. With Columbia County having one of the best school systems in the state, you would think there would be a bookstore somewhere. I disagree with the statement about the library. It draws in so many adults and children daily, not to mention it is a place for community gatherings, performances, etc. I'm not sure what the ranter considers "quality" books but I have been impressed by what I've seen.

As IF anyone needs confirmation that the "Good Ol Boy," mentality still exists around here.

Morning y'all. Actually

Morning y'all. Actually there are three major book stores in Columbia County. They are Walmart, Target and K-Mart. Oh...y'all meant REAL books! I was thinking more along the lines of where the commission buys their coloring books.

The right-wing is very good

The right-wing is very good at creating demons. However, 8 years of failure may pose a problem this election year. Kinda like making fun of the team that just kicked your butt.

UNIONS my

UNIONS my posteria.......unions are the reason we're paying out the yingying for every commodity we purchase. Unions are the reason gasoline is at an all time high. Unions are the reason we pay so dearly when we go to the grocery store. Everything is union made which means we pay you much more than you are worth to do the same job as a non-union employee. It's all about greed and self, after all isn't that what the union promises you, a big fat pay check for doing as little as possible. I say do away with the unions, put your butts back to work and help get this screwed up economy back where it belongs. Come on America, wake up, unions are destroying us. Vote them out...

Some people in this town

Some people in this town believe that Gordon hwy is still the "gateway" to downtown, and Xmart is a blight on the city. Have they taken a look around the rest of that area? That is not a part of town you want to run out of gas in. If the people of Augusta do not want this bookstore, it will shut down from lack of revenue. But some moral police won't let it even have a chance, and once again the hand of government gets involved in business, destroying free market capitalism.

PTHS, they are printed below

PTHS, they are printed below the daily Rants and Raves in the Metro setion, and the person who commented on them is 110% right, printing what was said in this forum makes no sense, it's like going to a baseball game in the 7th inning and not knowing who's playing or what the score is.

Nofrills, get off your cross

Nofrills, get off your cross there is someone out there who could use the wood. The people who frequent adult book stores are not freaks or perverts, and they are anything but ignorant. (Unlike you). How is this for a reality check, if you don't want to look at or watch X rated movies and books, don't. If you don't want to have a collection of toys don't. But don't tell me, my husband or any other free person what they can and can not do. It's called freedom of choice. You have the right to say what you want and feel they way you do, you just don't have the right to push your beliefs off on me. And just so you know, May's in N. Augusta sees more Georgia ID's than they do S.C., so why should S.C. get tax dollars that are needed here, it just proves that you have no clue. It also says that you may need to take a trip to May's and maybe get a little so you'll stop being so up-tight.
