Rants and Raves

STATE AUDIT SHOWS state workers are spending $370,000,000 fraudulently by illegal use of state credit cards. Perdue is the governor, thus he is ultimately responsible. Do you reckon Perdue realizes he should be locked under the prison for allowing $370,000,000 to get stolen?

ZILLIONAIRE WARREN BUFFETT gave millions to charity, but the charity was the "foundation" of Bill Gates, another zillionaire. Who knows how this thing worked out, but it sounds like Buffett was able to write off his entire charitable deduction, while Gates' foundation, being tax-exempt, paid no taxes on the income to the foundation.

THE POSTAL SERVICE is removing stamp machines from facilities. Not everyone can get to the post office during business hours. Charge more with less convenience -- now that's what I call serving the public.

A RANT FOR Richmond County government. The employees haven't had a Christmas bonus in five years. No matter how hard you work, Augusta can't afford it.

WE ALLOW PEOPLE to come to our nation to live free. Now, many of those people do not want us to have our freedom.

A RANT TO THE people on Richmond Hill Road who park untagged and uninsured cars on the street in front of their house, and a rant to the sheriff's office for not ticketing these owners. They are a hazard and an eyesore.

I ADMIRE THE accomplishments of James Brown and his giving nature, and I can't blame his family for wanting their share of his estate, but for the families' sordid escapades to be splashed all over the newspaper several times is too much.

If you have an opinion you want to share, call The Augusta Chronicle's Rants & Raves line at (706) 823-3397, fax your opinion to (706) 722-7403 or send an e-mail to newsroom@augustachronicle.com.

The responsibility Perdue has

The responsibility Perdue has isn't to do time for people misusing the cards, it's to delegate a competent system to prevent the practice from happening. Micromanaging doesn't work for those at the top.

The Gates foundation is a

The Gates foundation is a charitable foundation and as a result doesn't pay income taxes. It's paperwork is substantial to prove it's work is charitable. All contributions to the Gates foundation are deductible and Buffett's is no different then anyones. Google the Gates foundation and find out what they do and how it works. You'll sleep better.

More complaints regarding

More complaints regarding stamp machines. Kroger & Publix sell stamps by the book. There is no mark-up. Other local businesses such as Surrey Center Pharmacy has a small post office in their store in which you can buy stamps. You shouldn't have a problem.

If the postal service can

If the postal service can keep escalating the cost of stamps, etc. they ought to have a dang stamp machine in the joint for after hours customers. One shouldn't have to figure out which local business sells stamps.

Look, James brown knew what

Look, James brown knew what he was doing when he wrote his will, and then revised ot again and again. His children are not entilted, nor am I or you or anyone else.

The sense of entitlement that people feel is ridiclous. If we give, we give freely and for reasons that are our own, if we chose other recipients than our children mayybe there is a good reason.

James brown grew up poor and earned every cent he ever had, his chidren never knew the meaning of hungry or cold, maybe these are the lessons he is trying to teach from beyond.

How about the use of turn

How about the use of turn signals that was posted in the past. Any comments? It is an important part of driving a automobile on the roads.

kitty, if you watch the turn

kitty, if you watch the turn signals you'll see they're often not used when turning and are often used when not turning. Sometimes they come on after the turn has started. Turn signals are only a defense in court, not on the road.

momofthree, maybe jb should

momofthree, maybe jb should have used his turn signal to let everybody which direction he would be turning to allow them to know what they should watch out for. Oops he didn't drive a vehicle except when drunk. Drunks don't necessarily use turn signals. The concept still applies. He should have used a signal: let the family know what your intentions are. JB is dead. He didn't take care of business and now we all get to hear about him and him grown children for a long long time.

I would like to see the DMV

I would like to see the DMV require a road test before granting a license. When I first otained a license in Florida years ago, I had to drive on the streets and points was marked off just for something so small as stopping for a crosswalk, even if there was none marked. You had to assume a pedestrian crossing. This driving around a parking lot doesn't tell you much about what a driver will do in traffic. You also had to parallel park and was given only 2 tries. BTW>>Uh huh..I barely squeaked through.

fire-I see lots of cars

fire-I see lots of cars attempting to parallel park on the streets around the Municipal Bldg. Also, Broad St around Curtis Baptist. The side streets downtown. You notice if you are the unlucky one waiting for them to finally clear the driving lane. In Florida we had to have a car safety inspection sticker on the car before thes test could be given. Different laws in different states. This was some years ago. Laws there might have changed to correspond with the ability of the people taking the tests.

Kitty, since living in the CSRA, I have come to the conclusion that operating turn signals are way above the local intellect. Most of the drivers around here wouldn't last a week in Europe.

Chavez has found out that price controls lead to shortages of goods. Of course, it MUST be the fault of those filthy capitalists who are "hoarding" goods (what we call "inventory" in this country). Naturally, the answer is to confiscate goods and give them away. That WILL create lower demand, right?

momofthree, sorry but it's not the end of the story. You'll (and all of us) will hear about it again, again and again. whether we care to or not is not an option. BTW, the drum roll is not yours to present. The end of the story is at the end and the end is not near. Think for a minute.........................................Who cares except YOU? Oh, the other ignorant ones that think he was worth it. Your response, please.

I will be happy when Augusta

I will be happy when Augusta gets rid of the "pull in" parking on Broad Street. People leave the autos sticking to far into the street, especially from 13 and Broad to 10th Street. What happened to traditional paralell parking so the streets can be easier to travel down? They even park on corners which makes it harder to turn on some streets.......Downtown Augusta needs a complete overhaul with its' layout....it's so overly outdated!

If you work for a

If you work for a municipality or government, you should not expect a year end bonus, Christmas bonus or whatever else you choose to call it. Most companies that do offer bonuses do so based on fiscal year end profit margins or satisfying some type of production or revenue goal.

The Gates foundation along

The Gates foundation along with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates donate millions to charities and those in need and probably pay more taxes than half of Augusta. They have created jobs, opportunities and yes, even wealth. First, the Government shouldn't even be allowed to tax them at the rate of over 50%, including state taxes, etc. that they are currently taxed. And, secondly, any money Buffett has already received, he has paid the taxes on. Sounds to me like you are upset with those who have done well, paid tons of taxes and contribute a great ammount to the world in more ways than one.

Martinez, I'm with you.

Martinez, I'm with you. Bonuses should be handed out to people who have performed above and beyond the line of duty, so to speak. Employers should not be expected to give out bonuses just because they provide one a job to work at. Proper compensation for the job done should be all that is required. My husband, during his years of employment (he is self employed now) never worked anywhere that the gave out bonuses.
