Rants and raves

Comments from our readers.

THE LAKESIDE COACH said he made a mistake. It wasn't a mistake, it was plain and simple cheating.

A RAVE FOR Mary Frances Best from Harlem. She is a fantastic little girl and she is the Christian dedicated to the Lord. Not only did she win the LEGO competition, she has raised funds doing Hurricane Katrina and school packages. Just all sorts of stuff.

A RANT TO THE Board of Education. How is it right to suspend a student for three, five or 10 days for tardies? When the school is so overcrowded you can't get through the hallways. Students are standing around everywhere and its hard to get through.

A RANT FOR the welfare system here in Georgia. I work at a corner grocery. There's a lady that comes in every day and buys $20 worth of lottery tickets. She tells us that she has been on welfare for 14 years. I wish I had $20 to spend on lottery tickets. Maybe if I got on welfare I would.

A RAVE FOR Andy Cheek. I absolutely love the idea of having the water from the canal down Ellis Street. I can already imagine myself having lunch there one afternoon. So I don't know what all is involved but I certainly hope that comes to pass.

A HUGE RAVE for the loving, caring, friendly people that work at Family Physicians of Evans, Augusta Urology, Dr. Clarke's office and the University Hospital CT outpatient.

A RANT FOR THE person that wrote in that they hope people get their flu shots since they don't want to get coughed at or sneezed on. Well, I suggest you get to the store and buy you a mask because anywhere you go people are going to be coughing or sneezing.

EVERYONE STOP jumping on the young disabled veteran. I agree with him. He joined the military voluntarily to defend his country, not to defend a lie that was told by George Bush.

LAST YEAR I CALLED for not buying anything for Christmas made in China. This year I am not buying anything that is not 100 percent made in America.

A RANT TO people who have their cats declawed and then let them outside.

I WISH THAT when everybody loses a loved one that they would put the picture of the loved one in the obituary. A lot of time we recognize pictures more than names. And sometimes when people die that we know, we don't have a picture of them to see them one last time and the people that have passed away deserve to be in the paper.

SINCE THE PRICE of gas has gone up, have you noticed how many government vehicles are being used for personal use? This is a waste of tax payers' money and so unfair.

THE REPUBLICANS JUST want a level playing field. They just want to eliminate the unfair advantages of the homeless and the jobless. That's why they are pushing the fair tax and great tax bill.

Christmas cards - made in the

Christmas cards - made in the USA - I found some!! And they read "Proudly made in the USA" - we need to make attempts to find more items made in our country. Let us hope an effort is being made by our government to enable us to DO so!!
Merry Christmas to one and all!

The only thing good about the

The only thing good about the lottery is that it is a 'tax' on the welfare reciepiant..let more of them spent $20 a day ... that's the only income tax they pay. But then again, what with the 'earned income tax credit', there maybe an off-set. Remember folks, the only true tax is THE FAIR TAX of HR25; support and promote it!

There are plenty of "made in

There are plenty of "made in America" products. You can buy almost exactly the same thing as those China made products by going to the high end stores. Of course, you'll be paying 6 to 10 times as much. If you don't buy toys for toddlers to chew on from China, it will deal with the lead paint panic. Toys for children beyond the chewing stage are just fine with lead paint. You won't get lead poisoning of the eye by looking at lead paint and you won't absorb lead paint through the hand if the paint is cured, which it will be. The made in China panic lacks reason.

Subject: New Heaviest Element

Subject: New Heaviest Element Recently Discovered

A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element known to science. Its existence was proved during the hurricane, gasoline and other issues of the last year or two.

The new element has been named *Governmentium*.

Governmentium (Gv) Has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons,
giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called mo-rons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called pe-ons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less
than a second to take over four days to complete.

Governmentium has a normal

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 years. It does not decay, however, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will
actually increase over time, since each re-organization will cause more mo-rons to become neutrons, forming iso-dopes.

This characteristic of mo-ron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever
mo-rons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium -- an element which radiates just as much energy
as Governmentium since though it has only half as many peons it has twice as many mo-rons.

Kinda off the subject in regards to tax, what items that we purchase often are non taxable in the state of GA? This does not include school exception time.

It amazes me how someone

It amazes me how someone could be so upset about how that woman spends her money. So what if she spends $20 on lottery. That's her business, not yours. That's HER money, not yours, no matter how she got it or where it comes from, it's still hers. You people have some serious control issues!

Edith..I take it that you

Edith..I take it that you think it is okay to take welfare that you don't need to live on? Only the needy should be getting this money. Please don't defend people who are getting welfare illegally (if in fact, this person is). Welfare is not HER money or her business. Welfare is the Taxpayers money and business and is a concern of all of us.

karmakills, if children are

karmakills, if children are still chewing on their toys, then they're not beyond the chewing stage. It's up to the parent to know where their children are developmentally and to buy the toys accordingly. The "made in China" scare is like the "made in Japan" scare or the "made in Europe" scare. In many countries, it's the "made in USA" scare promoted by unions or other entities. Let your dollars do the voting and all will be as you chose.

Made in USA only in 'high

Made in USA only in 'high end' stores? I bought my Christmas cards at Family Dollar - religious cards - it's the reason for the season.
As for people buying lottery tickets with welfare money - (I win every day by not playing) - but the welfare folks can afford it, with our tax money - they don't feel guilty - we owe them, I guess.
They can also afford to eat steak while we settle for hamburgers.
Merry Christmas - be sure to get into the ''free toys'' line, another hand out - more money for lottery tickets. Will they go off welfare if they win??
