Rants and Raves

Comments from our readers:

I DIDN'T THINK I would live long enough to see a president dumber than Jimmy Carter but I did.

BILL CLINTON STATED that Hillary should be president because half the world is mad at the U.S. I wonder if that is the half we support with our food and money, or the half we protect with our blood and troops?

A RANT TO jail. My boyfriend has been in there for 15 months now awaiting to go to court. We haven't heard anything about a court date or even heard from his lawyer in months.

A RAVE FOR the Monday business section. I just love it.

A RANT FOR North Augusta High School. The girls' bathrooms are dark and dirty.

A RAVE FOR Judge Overstreet. Thank you very much for giving my grandson his life back.

THE HIGH-TECH lynching of Dave Barbee shows how ignorant the leaders of Augusta are.

I LOVE BILL KIRBY'S article. I would quit taking the paper if it leaves the paper.

RANT TO Bill Kirby about the postcards. The only people who care about reading that is the people who write them and their relatives.

A RAVE FOR the south Augusta fire department for answering my call so quickly in a lighting strike that caused a fire close to our home. Keep up the good work.

kb, I have a major in English and I make a lot of typos and even grammatical mistakes. I'm rusty. I used to be almost perfect. I think all would like me better now.

Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. Once it pops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away and a sunny spirit takes their place.

t of i..r u sure you're not

t of i..r u sure you're not Mafia? I get the same thing all the time. Oh and then comes the German in me...I must be a Nazi! But do I let it bother me? No. It doesn't hurt. Why? Because I'm American. I'm not German American, I'm not Itialian American. I'm just a plain American and proud of it. I have lived in many, many parts of this country and nowhere have I ever witnessed racism like here. And it goes BOTH ways. It floors me!

ranice and t of i--you two

ranice and t of i--you two enjoy yourselves. ranice--I never let my schooling interfere with my education. Education is often wasted on the ignorant. It's like a good book. If a man who has the means to read it doesn't, he is no better off than the man who can't read it. My education is of no consequence. I have nothing to prove. I don't feel the need to pound my chest and roar it out. It's not a trophy to me.

Actually, I'm not sure

Actually, I'm not sure Jenn30907. I just know that my Italian ancestors who arrived in this country were not Mafia. They were doctors and lawyers. My grandfather, born here, was a NY attorney who represented Haviland China Company, Princeton University, the White Russians in exile (yes,Alexander II's people who managed to escape), and Isadora Duncan. Maybe he was just a friend of Isadora's.

To me, the proof is in the

To me, the proof is in the pudding...I spend time each week with underpriveleged kids teaching them how to understand the value of money. I teach them how to understand the stock market. Why? It exposes them to something completely different. We play a game. Everybody gets 10,000 dollars. After a few weeks of listening to my boring teachings, we "invest" in stocks. They learn how to watch and trade and the value of money. These kids see something different than the norm. It's fun for me and I hope it is for them.

kb, my children introduced me

kb, my children introduced me to the existance of that game when they temporarily came back home after college. Their research enabled me to make some much needed headway in our privately funded (personally funded) retirement plan. Then they got jobs and wives and left us somewhat high and dry. What a wonderful thing to teach young people about ownership. You continue to awe me.

raniceab, knowsbetter would

raniceab, knowsbetter would be an excellent teacher for your children. He is not a racist and most of us aren't. You would be surprised at the number of "white" people out there who are willing and able to end this "two party" system. Those who are so quick to throw that card into the center of things are shooting good people in their feet.

t of i--I refuse. I need to peruse the city of aiken. Although you do have the highest molestation rate. As far as aweing anyone, kids need a hand. Icouldbe.org is a great place to get involved. It benefits adults that help at least as much as it does the kids. I believe if you help a kid now, you help a family later.

kb, we may have the highest REPORTED molestation rate. Maybe a product of advanced education and concern. Other things I will go into with you. You are familiar with Pat Conroy, aren't you?
