Rants and raves

Comments from readers:

THIS IS A RAVE for Dr. Caraway, one of the finalists in the Richmond County superintendent search. Thank you for mentioning the special education children in your comment. I wish you the best of luck, and it's good to see that someone is thinking of the needs of all children's education.

THANK YOU, CHRONICLE, for using my bottom line.

OUR COUNTRY DOESN'T NEED a new immigration law. We've had one for years. It just needs to be used. They need to pull it out of the closet or wherever it has been hidden, put the fence up and begin to use it. Our middle class is definitely suffering, and this new bill they came up with wasn't good. Anybody who could read could tell.

AFTER SEEING the commission meeting on television, I really think that Marion Williams needs to be taken off. He has no respect for anyone, not even himself. I don't know how he was ever elected in there to start with. He talked to the mayor very badly. He needs to start showing more respect toward the mayor, himself and everyone else.

I HAVE A RANT for Sonny Perdue. You keep taking the money out of Augusta, and now you are trying to take our water. We have to have a water restriction. You take it to Atlanta because they don't want to make any more reservoirs. You're trying to take our college, but don't take our water.

If you have an opinion you want to share with other newspaper readers, you may call The Augusta Chronicle's Rants & Raves line at (706) 823-3397, fax your opinion to 722-7403 or send an e-mail to newsroom@augusta chronicle.com.

Shame on the media's handling

Shame on the media's handling of the damaged FEMA trailers. While I agree the story needs to be told, they need to also point out that not all the trailers were damaged and not all the people helped by FEMA took advantage. This story is making a lot of people who reached deep into their pockets in a time crisis, people who showed tremendous generosity and compassion less likely to help the next round of storm victims. Yes this country and even New Orleans has it's fair share of low lifes but a great deal of those trailers, those FEMA dollars and even private contributions went to help legitimate, honest, proud and law abiding citizens and families. Should that sort of even take place in any town in the USA, you will find the same mixed results.... some good, some bad. That's doesn't mean that help provided was fruitless or in vane.

do a quick FEMA trailer

do a quick FEMA trailer search on google and see what you turn up. here's what i found: hundreds of websites showing former FEMA trailer occupants the variety of lawsuits available to them. and we're supposed to sit idly by NOT commenting on the abused trailers? it just seems that our society makes it harder to be altruistic; for those that still cling to the belief that you should extend a helping hand to those in need, make sure you are ready to lawyer-up afterwards.

I have a RANT for the North

I have a RANT for the North Augusta High School baseball teams. It’s a shame they don’t hold legitimate ‘open’ baseball tryouts or maybe it is just coincidental that the assistant coaches’ summer travel teams are made up of the ‘exact’ students that make the teams.

If the governor takes the

If the governor takes the water from Augusta that might be a good thing, maybe the people will leave and only the Commissioners will be left. They can fight among themselves until none of them are left. Then maybe the city can rise from the ashes like the phoenix and be reborn again. Heh that sounds too good to be true, nothing like wishful thinking!!

The govenor took the golf

The govenor took the golf funds and the spanish program funds, but I bet he made sure Houston County has all the funds they wanted. As usual he forgets ALL the people and only remembers his political cronies. He is a little George Bush and Dick Chaney all rolled into one. He learned well from them both. Thank God he can't run again to further damage Georgia. Thank heavens I did NOT vote for the turncoat. You all should remember he was a democrat till Houston County began voting republican then he changed parties so he could keep getting elected. He promised a real vote on the flag and he lied. Remember republicans you get what you PAY for. You got him now live with him for 3 more years.

sonny's another down south

sonny's another down south good ol boy only concern about rich people, take your sorry self back to macon. White ppl dont like marion williams because he doesnt let the whites do what they want, the good old boys have mess up augusta enough. Why would u want to get rid of marion, is marion to blame why augusta is so far behind, he wanted the drag strip, a upscale hotel right by the canal downtown laughed at by the good old boys, james brown statue to get lights & sing songs with a billboard on I-20 promoting the statue downtown, even when the good old boys wanted first friday to close around 11 or 12 or close alltogether. It was marion who said just because you go to sleep at 12 doesnt mean everybody else has to. It seems that marion is the most progressive thinker on the commission, atleast marion knows that major cities have night life. It seems the good old boys don grantham mostly is holding augusta back to always be a small town instead of the biggest mid-size city in the u.s.

Marion Willliams is nothing

Marion Willliams is nothing but a mud-slinging, disrespectful racist. He will answer to the Almighty for using the pulpit to spew his garbage, and will answer to the Almighty for behaving like he does, and especially in the name of God. I can promise you God knows who he is, and He is not happy with him. Just wait til Judgment Day, Mr Williams. I am not judging, so don't pull that one. I can read the Bible, and I can see how God will handle people like him.
