Rants and raves

Comments from readers:

THIS IS A RANT TO THOSE who are ranting about the medical college moving. You're stupid. It's not moving. They are opening a satellite in Athens. To all you Bush bashers, we haven't been attacked since 9-11. Enough said!

RAVES TO SOMEONE named Jessica in a silver Bronco. I'm an older lady and was on Walton Way by mistake. She led me over to where I was supposed to be on Laney-Walker. If it wasn't for her, I would still be trying to find my way. God bless you, Jessica.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY you are supporting Jimmy Carter. All you have to do is look at the unemployment rate. Does anybody remember the double-digit mortgages? My goodness!

THIS IS ABOUT BOB SMITH. Why can't he wear anything besides his blue shirt? He looked so nice during the Masters wearing different colors.

WHY CAN'T THE PEOPLE of Richmond County elect a superintendent? Why should it be a choice of a few? We feel, as citizens and taxpayers, that should be our privilege to help select this position. This is so that the circus that happened prior to this will not happen again.

WHEN DID THE REPORTERS start making the news instead of reporting the news? It should be reported, not made by the media. News 12 should be ashamed of themselves the way they covered what happened at the Riverwalk. Maybe that guard was wrong, but it's not your place to be the police. You are supposed to cover it after the fact. And for the record, she was not swinging at the reporter but moving the microphone out of her face. He was assaulting her, and that is the bottom line.

THIS IS A RANT AGAINST all the people that are being carjacked around Augusta. When you get out of your car, put your keys in your pocket if you are pumping gas, washing the windshield or leaving your car for whatever reason. If it's in your pocket, you can press the security button to scare people away. Men, women and young people, do not leave your keys in your car for any reason.

If you have an opinion you want to share with other newspaper readers, call The Augusta Chronicle's Rants & Raves line at (706) 823-3397, fax your opinion to (706) 722-7403 or send an e-mail to newsroom@augustachronicle.com.

To the person who wants to

To the person who wants to elect the RC Superintendent… sure, why not, Augusta has a great track record of electing high quality officials into public office. Are you serious? The position of Superintendent is not a popularity or fund raising contest, it is about attracting a candidate with experience and a proven track record. In this particular decision, they are also seeking someone with a fresh approach, a creative solution and a non-politically driven agenda. If you haven’t noticed, the top three candidates aren’t even from Augusta. If you don’t like how the search was conducted or any other decision your elected board member makes, replace him/her at the next vote but leave the decision of superintendent to those who have the resources and ability to make this decision informed by more then just whose yard sign is brighter or larger.

The reporter was doing his job following up a lead , all he did was put the microphone in her face that is an anoyance but not assault but when she touched him even while pushing the microphone out the way that constitutes assault if he wanted to pursue it .

I cannot imagine what your IQ

I cannot imagine what your IQ is, to be judging Bob Smith by the color of his shirt. He is the best meteoroligist Augusta has ever had, regardless of the color of his clothing.

Sorry dokken36055; the reporter had no right to stick anything in her face. If she felt threatened by his action her response to the perceived threat would be justified as self defense. Freedom of the press has limitations.

Martinez- I believe with what

Martinez- I believe with what you are saying. I just wish we could have seen the original list with the 30 applicants. Either way, the Board Members know the scrutiny they are under and they will choose whole heartedly the candidate they think will do the best for Richmond County.

People that think "some" cops

People that think "some" cops just could not be bad. I wached, over the years, a cop keep drugs in his home, only to stop teenagers, plant the drugs, radio down the road, another patrol pulls them over and they are arrested for drugs. Then the cops get together, and it's a big laugh. The same with a "sweet thing", radio ahead so the pal can get a good look. More fodder for a story at the kitchen table. These are, and were so called upstanding citizens. Hog wash. that's only the begining of their "fun". The best are usually the worst of the lot.

Does anyone know anything

Does anyone know anything about the house on Washington Road that has all the antique collectibles all around the house and yard? This house is in Evans headed towards Greenbrier schools on the left. I've heard an old man lives there but the house is always very dark and looks a little creepy.

I think the house you are

I think the house you are talking about is Mr Grimes. He also has a place on Gordon Highway near the intersection with wheeless road. If you have never been there you should go he has some very interesting pieces. He told me he makes most of them hisself. I have bought a few concrete things from there.

If these "rants and raves"

If these "rants and raves" were the best to be selected today, it was a slow day. For the fashion police calling for Bob Smith to wear something other than blue, you must not watch his show often, for he wears a lot of white shirts also.

I know what you mean....As a child I loved to wander around and look. They had concrete fairies and all kinds of things.
About 15 years ago a limb broke a birdbath in my dad's yard and I took him to Grimes for a replacement. Ended up buying some things for my own yard. My favorite has to be the little Jack and Jill that I still have in my herb garden. Guess it's time to go back and look again.........

Thanks for all the insight

Thanks for all the insight into the antique collectibles. I always wondered about that house. My husband said he thought it was the same man that owned the place on Gordon Highway. I've never been there but seen it. Does he still live in that house? How old is he now? Are the prices resonable?

i wonder: why we haven't been attacked sinced 911?
i wonder why some countries have never been attacked by these so called terrorists?ask cheney why we haven't been attacked.
i wonder why people talk about carter:
remember opec? he warned people to conserve energy.we are now hostage to the middle east oil.that's why the us will never leave iraq,Oil! it has nothing to do with terrorism!
bob smith's blue shirt?
first of all most people in that business train and move on,no one sticks around telling weather for 40 years.he has no ambition, therefore cannot afford to buy any more shirts.

To the person with the

To the person with the comment about this country not being attacked since 911. I’m please to inform you since you seem to be uneducated on how terrorist think. They take their time to plan for catastrophic events to have a greater effect on its intended target, in this case Americans. So if you think just because Bush is in office that’s the reason they haven’t attacked you are WRONG. They attacked the World Trade Center in 1993 and waited until 2001 when BUSH came into office. So what say you now?

Uh, 9/11 was during Bush's tenure so to make it sound like we are so safe under him is stupid. When was the last time we had such a major attack before Bush? Exactly. Shut up.
