Walton Rehabilitation project to bring green housing to Harlem

Walton Rehabilitation Health Systems announced Tuesday that its expansion of the Planer Mill Village senior apartments in Harlem will be the first multifamily project in Columbia County to adhere to Enterprise Green Communities standards.

Similar in nature to Leadership in Enterprise and Environmental Design certification, the green certification is awarded to projects that combine affordable housing with green building techniques.

“We are pleased to support Enterprise Green Communities certification as a responsible and progressive approach to our residential settings,” said Dennis Skelley, Walton Rehab’s president and CEO, in a news release.

Construction has begun, and the estimated completion date is in April.

The green certification ensures that the project will feature a predetermined ratio of preserved greenspace, will be built to EnergyStar standards, will feature a site-specific recycling area and will be built with water conservation in mind.

Planer Mill Village will be the third certified Enterprise Green Communities project in the state.
