Prenatal health fair scheduled Saturday

  • Follow Health

A prenatal health fair called Project Cradle Care will be held in conjunction with National Birth Defects Month from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The event is sponsored by the Augusta chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority in partnership with the March of Dimes.

Women of childbearing age are invited to the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St., for information on pregnancy, birth defects and infant care.

One in eight babies is born prematurely in the United States, according to the March of Dimes. The rate of premature birth has increased by 20 percent since the early 1990s and is the number one cause of death during a baby’s first month of life.
