Four candidates seeking the Republican nomination to run for the 12th Congressional District are speaking today in Augusta.

Republican candidates Rick Allen, Lee Anderson, Wright McLeod and Maria Sheffield are scheduled to address Augusta-Richmond County Committee for Good Government at the group’s monthly meeting, committee president Richard Isdell said.

Twelfth District Congressman John Barrow, the Savannah Democrat whom the winner of the July 31 Republican primary will face in November, is aware of the meeting and might attend, Isdell said.

Also scheduled to speak is new Augusta Fire Chief Chris James, he said.

The dinner meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in Julian Smith Barbeque Pit, 3 Milledge Road. Fried fish, hush puppies, tea and coffee will be served.
