Barnes' daughter, her girls injured in crash

Speeding Porsche struck minivan

ATLANTA --- Democratic gubernatorial nominee Roy Barnes' daughter and two granddaughters were injured in a car accident Sunday in Cobb County, with police saying a Porsche traveling above the speed limit crossed into their lane and struck the front of their minivan.

Alison Barnes Salter was taken to Kennestone Hospital on Sunday with injuries that were not life-threatening. Her two daughters -- ages 4 and 7 -- were taken by ambulance to Scottish Rite Hospital, also with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Mario D. Zuniga, of Kennesaw, the 17-year-old driver of the Porsche, was in critical condition Sunday afternoon, according to an official at Atlanta Medical Center. A 16-year-old passenger in Zuniga's car was taken to Kennestone Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police say Zuniga swerved into Salter's northbound lane while trying to round a curve. The front of the Porsche collided with the front of Salter's Honda Odyssey.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anna Ruth Williams, a spokeswoman for Barnes' campaign, said the former governor and his wife, Marie, "appreciate the outpouring of thoughts and prayers as their daughter and granddaughters recover from today's accident."

"Their thoughts and prayers also go out to the young men and the families involved in the accident," Williams said.

Salter, an attorney, works at Barnes Law Group, a Marietta law practice, with her father.

When I was 16 and lived in

When I was 16 and lived in Savannah a friend of mine got a pretty new vette for his 16th birthday. He took it out after his birtday dinner and killed himself meeting up with a palm tree. His rich daddy never got over it either.

Kids ought not have hot cars til they can by them.

Giving a 17 year old a

Giving a 17 year old a Porsche, in so many ways, is like making him the CEO of a company - They are not really ready at that age.

I don't really think that a 17-yr-old driving a Porsche is the point of the article here, however reckless a decision that may have been...who's to say she wasn't borrowing it as a reward for something good? People who can't spell 1st grade-level words ought not to be judging...just saying!

Some Porsches aren't that

Some Porsches aren't that fast. The 914's, 924's, and 944's are about as fast as any other car. I had a 911s that I sold because I was going to kill myself. Nothing like a gas tank sitting on your lap to make you nervous, but being 22 years old to make you not care.

Prayers to all involved.
