Hopefuls toss barbs at Georgia governor debate

Deal's finances, Barnes' legal work are targets during forum

ATLANTA --- Georgia's candidates for governor battled hard Sunday in a student-sponsored debate that touched on education, jobs and transportation.

In their first televised debate, Republican Nathan Deal, Democrat Roy Barnes and Libertarian John Monds threw numerous verbal body blows in a forum sponsored by the student government groups from five Georgia universities.

Barnes attacked Deal over questions that emerged from a loan Deal made to his daughter and son-in-law to start a business that failed.

"I have demanded you disclose your financial statements," Barnes said. "You have repeatedly amended them. You have repeatedly said you left off."

Barnes said that when casting their votes, people should look at it as a business decision.

Typical AC BS. Question or attack the republican candidate and it's no longer newsworthy for the public opinion threads.

Sure, we can go to their published web sight, but why bother? The omission is glaring, and speaks volumes about where the AC stands in this electon process.

John Monds, while not used to

John Monds, while not used to all the cameras, stomped both of them.

GGpap: I hardly think the AC

GGpap: I hardly think the AC is endorsing Nathan Deal. Although conservative, the paper recognizes a foul stench when it smell one. Unfortunately for all of us, the choice between Rep and Dem candidates is pathetic. Although Barnes is a well known political hack (crook) Deal is no better and everyone knows it. Will they hold their nose and vote for Deal? Maybe. Will Democrats fall in lock step behind the crooked Barnes..........YOU BETCHA!!! Democrats like their candidates a little on the shady side.

Monds was not questioned

Monds was not questioned about his role as member and President of the NAACP. He and Barnes both voted for Obama, and neither said he'd not repeat that vote /unless a 'better' candidate qualifed for 2012/. It's a wonder Monds was at the debate since his organization was busy on Capital Hill trying to get democrat/Obama voters fired-up for November!

Barnes and Deal are both

Barnes and Deal are both tired retreads. One can't keep his records straight and the other was so bad the first go around he got fired. Monds is the way to go.

Socks, you are an uninformed

Socks, you are an uninformed fool. John Monds voted for and endorsed Bob Barr, the Libertarian Candidate for President in 2008. Nice try.

OK, after much debate I've

OK, after much debate I've decided. I'm voting for Monds, so is my spouse, my parents, my in-laws AND my brother and his wife! Time for the republican party to squirm for a while. Until they decide who they are I just don't think the deserve my guaranteed vote.

Taylor, sorry to burst your

Taylor, sorry to burst your bubble, but, hey, don't blame the messenger! Monds has a long, active history as a member and President of a local chapter of the NAACP! His parent organization just demonstrated in DC to turn-out DEMOCRATIC supporters of Obama and his policies. Not only is a vote cast for Monds a vote wasted, it connotes a rural hick taken in by the same old condescending sweet talk. Keep Monds at the NAACP, and find other ways to push smart conservative politics in GA and in DC! Just another carpet-bagger, this one, if you ask me ...

Socks, for John Monds to join

Socks, for John Monds to join a local NAACP chapter is a needed public service. His clear thinking on individualism and liberty is something that the other members of the chapter have never been exposed to. I salute him for working with others who do not think like him, even though they look like him. Diversity of thought is a much-needed entity in the NAACP.

LL, Bill Clinton couldn't

LL, Bill Clinton couldn't have put it better! You are making excuses for the fact that John Monds joined a patently racist organization!! Afterall, Robert Byrd joined the KKK because he had, to, right?
Monds is free to associate himself with the NAACP, but I am equally free to tell the public the facts; and, of course, vote against candidates who espouse racist prescriptions even while hiding behind the libertarian banner.
