More than 23,000 people in Columbia County have voted early in the Nov. 8 general election, according to the county's election director.

Nancy Gay said 2,077 absentee ballots have been received so far, bringing the overall early vote total after Monday to 23,500. She said 3,633 absentee ballots were issued by mail.

Saturday voting this past weekend also opened up two more precincts for voters to cast ballots in the final week of early voting beyond the one at 610 Ronald Reagan Blvd., building G3, in Evans in the old Rhodes-Murphy building, next to Zaxby's. According to poll workers at Patriots Park in Grovetown, more than 1,000 people voted Saturday. The other precinct opened for early voting – from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – is Stevens Creek Community Church.

The last day to vote early at all three precincts is Friday. More than 40 precincts around the county will open on Election Day, Nov. 8.
