Votes will be recounted Friday to determine who won the Democratic primary for U.S. House District 2 – Arik Bjorn or Phil Black.
The district includes parts of Aiken, Barnwell, Lexington, Orangeburg and Richland counties.
Unofficial results showed Bjorn with 9,604 votes, or 50.12 percent, and Black with 9,558, or 49.88 percent. When vote totals are within a 1 percent margin, a recount is required by law, according to the state Elections Commission.
The commission will meet at 2 p.m. Friday to certify all results and will immediately order the recount, which will take place in the counties that make up District 2. After those counties re-scan paper ballots and re-read electronic data, they will report to the commission, which will certify the recount.
Results will be reported on the commission’s website, scvotes.org.
