Blocker-Adams schedules afternoon press conference

  • Follow Elections

Augusta mayoral candidate Helen Blocker-Adams has called a news conference for 5 p.m. today at her campaign headquarters, 216 8th Street.

Blocker-Adams was revealed this week to owe thousands on court judgments issued more than a decade ago and to have been served with dozens of eviction notices at two Augusta apartments between 2007 and 2013.

If she withdraws,

Sure hope the HBA fans will shift their support to Mr. Mason. They both oppose Splost and for this reason, Vote Mason and No Splost.

On Stage

Her personality tells me she will not drop out of the race. She's an extroverted performer and the stage just got bigger.

Let the pointless speculation begin!!

Predictions of what will happen at 5:00 p.m. and odds for each event:

Even money: Whine about her life and hard times with more excuses, blame Austin Rhoades, vow to fight on
3-1: Withdraw from race
100-1: Bring a suitcase full of cash, invite all her creditors to join her onstage and pay them off in full
50-1: Be abducted by UFO in front of press (note that this is more likely than previous item, paying off her creditors)
6-5: Be served with several garnishment orders by sheriff's deputies as cameras roll

Bored?

Which is more boring ... this story or the one beat to death about the Paine College shooting. Every hour there was some kind of update with nothing new to report ... and now this story with "more details" about the same information.

$20 Until Payday?

Brad, would you lend her $20 until payday, assuming she has a payday?

Hmmm...some folks must think she can win if they are doing all this damage in the 11th hour. Any dirt going to come out on the other candidates?

Who benefits

Helen will no doubt lose a fair number of votes as a result of this. The question that comes to mind is who will be the beneficiary?

Her debts are not manufactured. While is may seem boring to some I'd say those whom are bored were on the HBA team. Shame on her for running knowing the debts she had and the credit she had. Did she think she would get a free pass because she is a woman or because she is black? Whatever the reason anyone who cannot manage their personal finances has no business attempting to run for an office where millions of other peoples money is accessible. Personally, it may not be such a bad idea with so much money available that personal tax returns, audits, background checks and the like are prerequisites for this job. Maybe even a drug test sense they are required of other paid city employees. Now, with that having been said she hurt alot of people that she had duped into believing that she was a responsible and viable candidate. They worked hard for her effortlessly and she owes them along with the rest of us who have already voted for her a huge apology and then back out!

Yes, he is. Glad to see him give her the benefit of the doubt. I don't plan to vote until I hear what she has to say.

To Riverman1:

The vig is 6 for 5 on payday according to my old drill sergeant who made a lot (20%+ per month) loaning us trainees money because we got paid in cash and he was right there in the barracks to collect before we could go downtown or even to the PX with our dough.

Dixieman is "playing the race

Dixieman is "playing the race card".

HBA and Austin have always had a good relationship. She used to guest -host for him when he was away.

You owe her an apology for saying she will blame this matter on race. Part of HBA's appeal is that she really tries to transcend issues of race. Sounds like someone else is stuck on race and it is not HBA.

"You owe her an apology ..."

Do you consider yourself the speech police? Will it bother you if people pay you no mind?

Seems like you're the one who introduced the "race" issue here.

HBA does try to transcend

HBA does try to transcend race. I had dinner with her and a relative who is close to her a year or so back. Very nice lady, and we had a pleasant evening. I really liked her on a personal level and have been very disappointed to hear of her lack of financial responsibility.

Manufactured Scandal?
Unpublished

I doubt her debts and eviction notices were manufactured by anyone other than herself. However, I do agree that the timing for releasing this bombshell was manufactured for maximum effect and to knock her out of the race. It should not take a genius to figure out which campaign is behind this dirty trick.
