GOP Senate debate today in Aiken

  • Follow Elections

AIKEN — Five of the six Republicans running against U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham are meeting in a debate in Aiken.

The Aiken Republican Club is sponsoring today’s debate, which will take place after the club’s luncheon in downtown Aiken.

A panel of reporters will ask questions of the candidates. Those scheduled to appear at the event are Columbia pastor Det Bowers, Spartanburg County state Sen. Lee Bright, Upstate businessman Richard Cash, Orangeburg lawyer Bill Connor and Lowcountry businesswoman Nancy Mace.

Graham will not attend the debate.

Graham is seeking a third term in the Senate. All his Republican opponents say he isn’t conservative enough for South Carolina and tries too hard to compromise with Democrats.

The primary is June 10.

Well, since the Democrats

Well, since the Democrats have the majority in the Senate, if the Republicans won't compromise, they won't get ANYTHING that they want.

Remember the saying about half a loaf is better than none?

You have to be careful about how the term "compromise" is defined in the context of today's media. It in no way resembles the definition according to Webster!

I don't blame Graham for not showing up. Aiken voters are savvy enough to know when their proxy in the senate is truly representing.

SC is not a natural habitat for Rhinos!!!

I'm sure that'll be sold

I'm sure that'll be sold out.

Graham will probably cruise easily to reelection as people will vote strictly based on name-recognition and carpet-bomb advertising by the Graham campaign.
