Monday is the final day to register to vote in the Nov. 5 municipal and special elections, according to Richmond County Board of Elections Executive Director Lynn Bailey.

Voters seeking to register can apply at the elections office, 530 Greene St., by 5 p.m. Monday or download a form at and mail it postmarked no later than Monday. Applications cannot be submitted by fax or email.

The only elections set in Richmond County this Nov. 5 are municipal races in Hephzibah and Blythe and a special election to fill the House District 127 post open since the Aug. 2 death of Rep. Quincy Murphy. Three candidates - Dianne Murphy, Diane B. Evans and Brian Prince - have qualified to run to complete the year remaining in the legislator’s term.

The elections office will issue absentee ballots by mail upon request starting Oct. 14, and early voting in the November races begins the same day at the board of elections office. Saturday voting is on Oct. 26.

The office also has a public hearing scheduled Oct. 15 on proposed precinct and polling place changes that go into effect next year. The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at the main library, 823 Telfair St.
