Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp has set the candidate qualifying for the seat of the late state Rep. Quincy Murphy as Sept. 16-18.

According to a news release, qualifying will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sept. 16; 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sept. 17; and 8 a.m. until noon Sept. 18.

Candidates will qualify at the Elections Division of the secretary of state’s office, 802 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE in Atlanta. The qualifying fee is $400.

The election for House District 127 will be held in portions of Jefferson and Richmond counties. The elections are nonpartisan special elections with no party primaries. Each candidate’s party affiliation, if any, will be listed on the ballot, however. Runoff elections, if needed, will be held Dec. 3.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Nov. 5.

Voters must be registered by Oct. 7 to participate in the special election. Registration forms can be obtained at any county registrar’s office or from the secretary of state’s Web site, sos.ga.gov/elections.
