Helen Blocker-Adams confirmed Tuesday that she will run in the 2014 mayoral race.

In an e-mail Tuesday, Blocker-Adams confirmed to The Augusta Chronicle she will run in the 2014 mayoral race. She plans to make a formal public announcement in coming weeks.

Blocker-Adams narrowly missed out on a mayoral runoff race in 2005 to fill the one-year unexpired term of Bob Young. She got 23 percent of the vote, and Deke Copenhaver got 25 percent. She endorsed Copenhaver over then-interim mayor Willie Mays.

She runs a marketing and event planning company and The Southeast Enterprise Institute, a nonprofit human advocacy and youth leadership development organization. Until recently, Blocker-Adams was host of a local radio talk show on WKZK.

Questionable

She is questionable. She doesn't say where she stands at any time. When asked whether she is a democrat or republican she does not say, but will kind of smile and divert her answer. Personally I like to know exactly where someone stands. There has been to much wishy washy politics going on and too many candidates that say whatever they need to say to whoever they need to say it to. Augusta needs a strong leader that will step out and do what they say and say what they mean. Helen seems to be nice but seems to be more of the same.

Non-Partisan

The city of Augusta politcal races are non-partisan. Therefore, there is no reason for a candidate to declare a party. Ask her if she'll support or oppose the rain tax. If she supports the rain tax, I'll vote against her.

Local races

Should be non partisan. It had a big effect on the sheriff's race.

Good to see Helen throw her hat in the ring.

It is always great to see a person of substance enter any political race. Next year is shaping up to be an interesting one in politics.

Run, Helen, Run!

She has been an advocate, statesperson and leader for Augusta for many years. Nice to see some good news in the AC for a change.

More of the same...

Augusta is in bad need of a strong leader, not another cheerleader.

Helen Blocker-Adams

is an exceptional woman who's past record for standing for Augusta and its residents is impeccable. I believe she has been a Democrat in the past yet she is extremely conservative and believes in conservative values. I believe she doesn't like to be type cast to any party, she believes in individual responsibility and she encourages young people to achieve. I would be proud to have her as the next mayor of Augusta.

She's a Democrat.

Why do I think so? Democrats will never admit what they're up to until elected; a Republicans isn't ashamed of being one. Poor start for a campaign, that; trying to deceive before the first poster goes up. Yeah, she'll be just fine for Augusta.

Unpublished

Why would anyone in their right mind want to hold this powerless position? You have no power to do anything at all. Augusta is split by a racial divide. Here's the plan that should work. Only have 9 commissioners to avoid having a tie. And everyone must be present on voting days, and you must vote yes or no. If you refuse to vote, it counts as a no and you move on.
Why there is an equal number to begin with is beyond me. You're setting yourself up for failure.
Have you ever wondered why you don't decide something by winning 2 out of 4? Because both people could win 2 each so essentially you have no winner. Wise up RC, you're paying taxes on nonsense and you're also paying the salaries of worthless high paying salaries like the one HBA will get if she wins.

Black Candidates

There are certainly a lot of black candidates diluting each other's strength. But some may view Blocker-Adams as weakening the only announced white candidate, Joe Jackson. Maybe he will drop out and get behind her? I still can't take him seriously.

Ms. Blocker – Adams has

Ms. Blocker – Adams has stated in the past that she is a servant leader. The servant-leader is servant first. It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. That person is sharply different from one who is leader first. The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant-first to make sure that other people’s highest priority needs are being served. She also founded and facilitated South Augusta Business @ Breakfast, it was started to bring the South Augusta small business community together to network, share ideas, develop new relationships and fill a void in the marketplace.
I personally do not have a problem with Ms. Blocker- Adams, but I have a problem with her approach. I personally do not think she is a true servant leader for Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Public, but rather a person that will only help those that can monetarily facilitate her. I think there is a thin line between being an independent public servant of the people, and a self serving “CONTROLLED” politician, and in my opinion Helen has crossed that line. Helen Blocker - Adams has done some good things in the community, but those things do not make her a leader, but she has on need to feel lonely because she has plenty of company, because there are very “ FEW” leaders in ARC that truly have the people best interest at heart. As the song goes,” Looking for love in all the wrong places.” We sometimes look for our leaders in all the wrong places and with Helen all I can say is that “Here you all go again.” As far as Joe “Jethro Bodine” Jackson goes, that “double nut spy” couldn’t win a county wide race in ARC if his life depended on it, even if there were 20 black candidates.

Helen please sit down! Your

Helen please sit down! Your views are aligned with a certain crowd here in Augusta. Your enforcement of Deke over Mays speaks about your character. You are entering the race only to DILUTE THE BLACK VOTE. Will Augusta elect a black female.....maybe....no time soon, though.

Your radio show was as entertaining as Charlie Brown's teacher. Your "fund raisers" are all about your pockets. Just speaking truth....it may not be popular, but it is TRUE.

Helen, please sit down.

Don't know much about her but

Don't know much about her but I cannot vote for anyone if favor of putting a RAIN TAX on rural people who have open ditches that have been there 30, 40 years or more and never had the first lick of county maintenance.

Sorry Helen.....you need to spell out your positions on the "taxing", and "fee" issues that face the rural and suburban TAXPAYERS. I personally don't care about your views on progress, young people, etc. With an 8% sales tax on top of a 6% state income tax coupled with an already HIGH property tax and school tax, outrageous garbage fees, talk of a RAIN TAX, the county coming up short on revenue and Fred dipping into the reserve fund while spending SPLOST money that HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED BY THE TAXPAYERS, and the school board spending and taxing us into oblivion, the only issues I am concerned with are MY MONEY and GOVERNMENT INCOMPETENCE IN SPENDING IT.
