Brian Slowinski to seek 10th Congressional District seat

    A former Republican Party chairman in Columbia County announced Friday morning his intention to run for Congress in the 10th District.

    Brian Slowinski’s e-mail announcement comes after Rep. Paul Broun, of Athens, said he intends to forgo seeking re-election next year in the 10th District to make a run for Senate.

    Slowinski, of Martinez, has been involved in Republican causes since moving to Georgia in 2004. He volunteered in campaigns for Sonny Perdue, Herman Cain, John McCain and others.

    In 2012, Slowinski unsuccessfully ran for a Columbia County school board seat.

    “We need to elect men and women of principle who will address runaway government and save America from ruin,” Slowinski said in a news release. “I am running so my six children can follow their dreams without a government taking away their God-given rights or the America we love.”

    Rumors have swirled about other candidates who might seek the 10th District seat, but Slowinski is the first to make a formal announcement.

    About 11,000 Columbia County registered voters remain in the 10th District, which was recently redrawn.

    Setting an example

    Will he be using his children to campaign for this election? Nothing says good parenting like using your *small* children to campaign for you at a busy intersection with no other adult supervision. I made sure that everyone I knew in Columbia County heard about that and saw it.

    Opportunity knocks for columbia county to put forth a candidate that can represent the 10th district. Please don't blow it this time. I know Brian, and he is not, i repeat NOT that person.

    This is what my ENG101 referred to as "glittering generalities". This drivel is what I'd expect from Paul Broun.
    He's not going to have to show much to outperform Broun and with statements like this, he is right on track to become Broun 2.0.

    Seems chances are slim

    I don't know how politics work, but if you can't even win a seat on a school board, how can you win the 10th district?
