Columbia County’s Board of Elections will meet Wednesday to begin selecting a successor to retired Director Deborah Marshall.

The board received 45 applications for the position by Friday’s deadline, Chairman Larry Long said.

“I’ll be presenting them to the board tomorrow,” he said, adding that he hasn’t reviewed them all but that he expects many of the applications to be winnowed out as unqualified.

“As I understand it, that is normally what they experience is that the initial group usually is not as impressive as those that will come in mostly at the last minute,” he said.

The position, as advertised, has a pay range of $53,718 to $80,576.

Marshall, who has been at home since having surgery on a malignant brain tumor in April, retired at the end of December.

The board hopes to name her successor by the end of February, Long said.

Good Ole Boy

Lets hope a "Good Ole Boy" prone to giving under political pressure not picked.

And while we're at it....

let's also hope (and pray if it's your style) for a speedy and full recovery for retired Director Deborah Marshall.

Good Ole Girl!

Contrary to what TK3 said we want the "Good Ole Girl" to be picked for the job. Who did the county designate as the "go to" person at the Board of Elections during a presidential election year? Did this person satisfy all of the "go to" administrative duties related to the Director's job? Should she be considered as the top candidate for the job?

I say yes and that person is Nancy Gay!
