ATLANTA — The State Elections Board formally reprimanded Thomson Mayor Kenneth Usry during Tuesday’s meeting for entering polling places as a candidate for re-election.

Brink Bradshaw and Kelvin Williams, the director of Thomson-McDuffie County Elections and Voter Registration, lodged the complaint with the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, which oversees elections. They accused Usry of intimidating voters by visiting three polling places during last year’s municipal election.

Usry told state investigators that he had heard rumors of irregularities and wanted to check them out. He said he didn’t know it was illegal for a candidate to visit polling places for any reason other than voting.

The state board closed the case without a fine or penalty, but it did order him to “cease and desist” along with issuing the reprimand.

Long overdue for an investigation

I have been told numerous stories of the mayors "problems" from several different McDuffie workers.

Like allowing a close friend / Employee to use a City Vehicle to
drive down to Savannah for Friday meeting then use the vehicle at taxpayer expense to participate in a archery tournament for 2 days.

An use of a city pickup to go Deer Hunting and another time to haul items around for a business related activities.

Every time he was caught he stonewalled the complaints.

While I am on the subject of the Thomson Mayor.

This is the same mayor who stopped the sobriety testing and possible arrest of an employee (friend) driving a city vehicle drunk, because he said he would do this for anyone who needed help.

The AC has a Target rich environment here.

To Be Fair

Well, the employee was called out in the middle of the night to help with an emergency repair to a wastewater pump.
