Rick Allen ready to call for recount in GOP runoff

A margin of 157 votes remained between Grovetown state Rep. Lee Anderson and Augusta businessman Rick W. Allen on Friday, the deadline for military ballots to be returned. Allen is expected to request a recount when results are certified Tuesday, campaign manager Scott Paradise said.

The margin, less than 1 percent of ballots cast in the 12th Congressional District Republican primary runoff, grants Allen the right to request a recount.

Richmond County Board of Elections Executive Director Lynn Bailey said she is preparing her office for a recount Wednesday morning, after results are certified by Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

Bailey was preparing to certify results in the runoff Friday, with the addition of just two more military ballots that arrived by mail.

Expecting to face Anderson in November, Democratic U.S. Rep. John Barrow unveiled a new ad Friday distancing himself from President Obama and linking Anderson to Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, whose budget plan he says would cut Social Security and Medicare. “John Barrow would never do that,” the ad says.

Paul Ryan has no intention of

Paul Ryan has no intention of cutting social security or Medicaid. Give me a break. Not a big Anderson fan but he is the lesser of the two evils.

That last paragraph about Barrow and Ryan doesn't belong in this story.
