Woman alleges she was promised car for votes

The Georgia secretary of state’s office is investigating an allegation of vote-buying in the Democratic runoff for Richmond County sheriff.

Sheriff Ronnie Strength said his investigators forwarded information Tuesday to the secretary of state after a preliminary investigation into a complaint made by a 23-year-old Augusta woman against a person campaigning for school public safety Lt. Richard Roundtree.

The woman, Latasha Moore, said she was at a Roundtree campaign event Aug. 18 at the Dogwood Terrace public housing area and was approached by Jerry Lee Jordan, according to a sheriff’s report.

Moore said Jordan promised her a car if she could persuade four other people to vote for Roundtree in the Aug. 21 runoff between him and sheriff’s Capt. Scott Peebles.

Moore told police she encouraged several people to vote for Roundtree and “obtained election certificates from the poll workers” to prove they had voted. Moore said that when she was finally able to make contact with Jordan, she was told she wouldn’t get a car “because the candidate had lost by 1,000 votes,” the report said.

The sheriff said Moore complained to police that she didn’t receive the car that was promised.

Strength said investigators sent the case to the secretary of state’s office for further investigation.

Jared Thomas, a spokesman for Secretary of State Brian Kemp, confirmed that the information had been received Tuesday and an investigation had been opened.

Roundtree said he was not familiar with the allegation and that he wanted to read the police report before commenting further.

Reached by phone Tuesday, Moore said she was upset that the media was calling her and “knocking on my door.”

She said she didn’t want her name used in a police report and would not cooperate with any investigation.

“I told the sheriff that when I gave him all those papers,” she said. “I ain’t going to do it.”

Moore refused to say more and hung up. She did not return messages left on her voice mail seeking further comment.

Jordan’s wife, Cushena Jordan, said her husband had surgery Tuesday and wasn’t able to speak. She said she knew Moore as a customer of her business, U Wanna Ride Used Cars on Deans Bridge Road.

Jordan said the allegations were false and that she and her husband had asked everyone at the event to bring people they knew to the polls to vote for Roundtree. She said that when Moore said she didn’t have a car, her husband said to “get a down payment and come see me,” not that he would give her a car for votes.

“Anybody who knows my husband knows he don’t give away nothing,” she said.

Jordan said she has consulted with a lawyer and intends to file a complaint against Moore for slander.

She said she was upset that the report had been sent to the secretary of state when no sheriff’s investigators had spoken with her husband.

“Nobody has talked to us about it before tonight,” she said.

This sounds as farout and

This sounds as farout and unbelievable as a Nigerian "lottery winner" letter.

Who would ever believe an offer like that? And what are "election certificates from the poll workers"?

Are you saying the complaint was farout or the offer was farout? You would be surprised at the things people believe.
Why wouldn't she believe she'd get a car--Democrats have gotten free phones, free food, free money, and free housing for years!

Certificates

The poll workers have small certificates they will fill out and give to voters at the voters’ requests. The main use for these certificates is for voters whose employers give them time off to vote and want proof they actually showed up at the polls.

This is the statement that makes everything so creditable for me:

"Moore said Jordan promised her a car if she could persuade four other people to cast votes for Roundtree...."

Well, on the radio, it was

Well, on the radio, it was said it was far more serious. It was said the ruling by the county attorney was being looked at again and Roundtree could be held ineligible. The whole scenario of what happens if the leading candidate is not allowed to run in the general election was aired. This is simply funny stuff. A Who Shot Boo election.

Augusta Tax Dollars at Work

This is the most rediculious story I have ever heard! Is this what we should expect from our Sherriff Elect? With all the Real Crime going on Augusta, Ronnie Strength got our officials "chasing goast in the wind"! Now I know this is going to be an up hill battle for the Rupblicans in November, please feel free to spend your money friviously just don't ours.

to mr bonz

Point one, we have NO sheriff elect until AFTER the general election which has not been held.

Point two, since Ronnie Strength is STILL the elected Sheriff, he is doing what he is supposed to do, enforce the Law.

Point three, It was a DEMOCRAT who made the offer of the car. Its your money, not mine that is being used.

And we wonder how/where we, as a population, went wrong.

I Had A Friend

who used to call people on the phone and tell them he was with the water department and thier toilet was defective. He would instruct them to break it up with a hammer. That is just one of the pranks, but the gullibility of people amazed me. A car for four votes? i would have at least negotiated an SUV for 9 votes. I have never met anyone like this. Do they really exist? Evidently.

Hope you know what you doing

Roundtree I sure hope you know how to play Good ol Boy Politics. This is exactly how they started off with Ex Senator Walker. They don't have any intent on finding any truth behind this story at all. This is just a warning, to show you to what degree they will stoop to unseat you. First you have to learn to read between the lines. They have already acknowledged the fact that they cannot defeat you. In Good ol Boy langauge that means they have to destroy you. They are relentless and they will never ever give up. Eventually they will try to infiltrate your associates, who will then turn against you. They will always appeal to your most trusted, so trust no one. All of your allies will be infiltrated as well to get to you, family first!! With all of this being said I have to wonder rather it's worth the risk, and thats exactly what they are hopeing you will think. Rather it is worth it. Many have succumb to these tacktics. The writing is on the wall!! Good Luck, and you have my VOTE.

A woman was approached by who

A woman was approached by who "Jerry lee Jordan" and he told her he was going to buy her a car if she gets four votes. she fell for the sink line and hook. If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything. Thats good if she believe what Jerry lee Jordan told her, but she was not told these words from Roundtree mouth, case closed.

Richmond County's Sheriff

Richmond County's Sheriff Strength you did it again aiding Roundtree chancing of winning in November. Why you let your investigators forward this frivolous complaint ,you show know how to put the ball in Roundtree court? You probably would had more creditability if a drug dealer said" a dude named "Snoop Dog" offered him 4 birds for 10 votes for Tree.

My cousin, Snag Wilson (phony

My cousin, Snag Wilson (phony last name), ran for town council in this little SC town not too far from here. Snag is called Snag because his two front teeth must have been knocked out when he was pretty young because I always remember him with no front teef (that's how he says teeth).

He told everyone if they voted for him, to go on down to Richard's, the town's only restaurant-beer joint and tell Richard, his brother, to fix them up a dinner with all the trimmings. Well, Richard almost went bankrupt and Snag lost the election.

But the reason Snag lost is everyone said they didn't see his name on the ballot. The only Wilson was named Gerald. Snag said he never did like his real name, Gerald. Least he wasn't giving away cars...just free dinners at Richard's.

Election Claim

The sheriff department has to investigate the claim and if the claim is false then the person making the claim would be in violation of the law and if true then I hope Lt Roundtree was not aware of this happening. This race should not be by political parties but like the mayor and council members election that has no party listed on the ballot.

Another Ronnie Strength, Scott Peebles, and Freddie Sanders plot

We all know that Sheriff Strength and his good ole boys are having a hard time accepting THE BIG defeat. So, they found a way to get the Secretary of State involved to create negativity on the election. The good ole boys stooped very low (unethical) and persuaded an underprivileged black female and a man from Stapleton Ga to assist the loosers in strategizing a case to present to the Secretary of State. I hope the accusations don't prove that one of the good ole boys hand got caught in the cookie jar....... How can any one truly involved in the Roundtree campaign really afford to purchase cars for votes?????Roundtree admitted he ran his campaign on a very small budget.... Do you really think his campaign could afford to donate cars for votes...... Richard would have had more Roundtree signs around the city of Augusta than Scott Peebles. So what else could the unhappy candidates have up their sleeve but to try and destroy Lt Rountree??? Reality has it..... Freddie Sanders doesn't have a chance..... we need a 21st Century Sheriff, a Technology Sheriff, a Sheriff not a paper pusher, a sheriff for community policing, for accredidation, a sheriff that won't over crowd the jail... "They are going to jail,"

A sheriff that won't

A sheriff that won't overcrowd the jail? Really? Would that imply that Roundtree would not arrest those that were found to have committed a crime?
