McDuffie elects familiar faces

THOMSON, Ga. — Incumbent McDuffie County Commissioner Paul McCorkle defeated challenger Gloria Thomson on Tuesday for the District 2 A seat 1,179 to 1,083. Incumbent Bill Jopling won his race against challenger Ray Silverstein 1,770 to 459 for the District 2 B seat.

Greg Derry defeated Bob Smith 1,504 to 1,296 for the school board’s super district 2 seat.

Tinye Harding defeated Andy Knox Sr. for the District 5 school board seat, 596 to 433. And District 6 school board member Dexter Lovins held his seat 598 votes to challenger Wayne Shelton’s 256.

For coroner, Democrat Ed Lewis and Republican Foster Wylie will face off in November, and Wylie defeated Paul Johnson 1,866 to 964.

McDuffie voters favored the TSPLOST 2,556 to 1,997.
