It has been widely reported that Peebles would run for sheriff so long as sitting Sheriff Ronnie Strength did not run for re-election. Strength announced Friday he will not.
Richmond County School Safety Lt. Richard Roundtree, a former sheriff’s investigator, also has said he would run. Strength’s brother-in-law, Lt. Robbie Silas, has expressed interest as well. Silas is expected to make that announcement Tuesday.
During his retirement announcement Friday, Strength hinted that someone else within the sheriff’s office had expressed interest, but he declined to say who.
