SC Green Party candidate protests Thurmond name

  • Follow Elections

COLUMBIA — South Carolina's Green Party gubernatorial candidate is protesting that a federal building is named for the late Sen. Strom Thurmond.

Morgan Reeves picketed in Columbia today, demanding that Thurmond's name be removed from the building and from most other buildings and parks across the state. A handful of supporters attended carrying three signs.

Reeves says there's a direct connection to Thurmond's racist comments more than 60 years ago when he ran for president as a Dixiecrat, and Reeves' treatment as a third-party gubernatorial candidate.

The African-American candidate says he is being discriminated against by not getting the same attention as Republican Nikki Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheheen. Reeves is also upset with black politicians and ministers.

Why does the AP only report

Why does the AP only report when third parties act a fool? I mean, the Greens are way out there, but the Libertarians aren't. I refuse to let my party show their "posteriors" to get attention...

Considering that Strom

Considering that Strom Thurmond was the father of Essie Mae Washington, a black woman, what's the problem?

"Reeves says there's a direct connection to Thurmond's racist comments more than 60 years ago when he ran for president as a Dixiecrat, and Reeves' treatment as a third-party gubernatorial candidate."

People don't pay any attention to him because he makes stupid remarks.

You know, i don't usually

You know, i don't usually write comments but i can't let this one slip by. It amazes me that people still try and use the race card because things aren't going their way. To me, that just shows the pure ignorance you possess because 85% of the people that yell RACE weren't ever around during the times or segregation. It's just like any other event in history, it happened, learn from it and move on.....Thats why they call it HISTORY!!! This gentleman obviously feels he is not getting the attention he deserves in the gubernatorial race so thats his way of doing so. I promise you dear Sir, that your skin color is not the reason your campaign has not made an impact on you're fellow South Carolianian's, but more so your MAJOR mis-conception of reality and how foolish you really are......And NO ONE wants that shallow mentallity as a leader!!

This Green Party candidate's comments make Alvin Greene look like a genius by comparison.
