Yet another delay has slowed the start of Augusta’s program to use goats to maintain area detention ponds.

The planned deployment of several goats to a Hephzibah pond was held up after a shelter intended to house the goats at the site fell apart and a new one had to be built.

Engineering Director Abie Ladson said the planned deployment of several goats to a Hephzibah pond Monday was held up after a shelter intended to house the goats at the site fell apart late last week and a new one had to be built.

The start of the pilot program was first announced for last Thursday, but delayed by veterinary care city officials said the goats had to receive.

Ladson said the city now has as many as eight goats, several of them abandoned at Augusta Animal Services, to use in the program, which officials hope to eventually expand to to other areas.

"after a shelter intended to house the goats

I get the feeling that this plan is going to have some interesting, comical results. Goats missing.....maybe attacking people.....not eating what they are supposed to......gonna be good....

DEtention ponds?

Are "detention" ponds a new form of cheap incarceration in ARC, some kind of cost-cutting measure due to austere budget? I think the inmates will get pretty waterlogged after spending a while in those ponds... that should be effective rehab!

Beyond farce

ARC could not organize a two-car funeral.
I vote to put the goats in charge of city government and release the ARC Commissioners and bureaucrats go out, get down on all fours, and chew the grass. That would be a proper division of labor by intelligence and managerial ability.

Local story

I hope this does not make to national news. A/RC government is just not capable of anything. I have had goats {lots of them} and they are just not that hard to manage.

Goats

Forget the goats! Let the grass grow - will come cheaper in the long run. Just another idiotic move by all those geniuses in the Marble Palace.

Marion talks out of his rear end too much sometimes but I think

this one could be counted as good. Other communities have had successes with goats so I hope that RC will too. Once the new gets old it will work out and it probably work. A deer trail camera should be hidden in the area to keep the saboteurs from striking.
