The east Augusta tag office is closing its rented space in the ANIC building on Laney-Walker Boulevard and moving to a new location in the Publix Shopping Center on Washington Road.

According to a news release from Tax Commissioner Steven Kendrick, the 925 Laney-Walker Boulevard tag office will serve its final customers Thursday, with a new office in the Publix Shopping Center, 2816 Washington Road, to open next Wednesday.

Customers may continue to handle their tag business downtown – in the tax commissioner’s office – if they choose, however.

“This move is the first in our realignment of tag and tax services that will provide more convenience for the citizens of our county,” Kendrick said.

Starting this summer, the new Washington Road office will offer late hours on select days and a drive-through window for simple transactions.

Just a matter of time

before the South Augusta office is closed. Rumor has it the replacement for that one will be in Evans. Or Grovetown!

next thing to do.

The next priority should be for the Laney-Walker staff to train the Lumpkin Road on courtesy.

Good Point

When they made the change to the ad valorem tax rules, I had the occasion to visit the Laney Walker tag office twice on tax/tag issues. I found the employees to very courteous and gracious both times. I haven't been to the one on Lumpkin Road in a long time, but I can vouch that the employees at Laney Walker are great.

Gouge

I am glad they are moving the tag office out of that building in the picture up above. The landlord is gouging the city on the rent.
