COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus officials are considering a plan to build a public restroom beneath a bridge that would cost more than the value of many Georgia homes.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the project is estimated to cost $244,000, with almost $160,000 for the restroom itself.

The city Planning Department is expected to bring the proposal before the Columbus City Council on Tuesday night.

If approved, the restroom would be beneath the Frank Martin Memorial Bridge.

Of the $243,861, the state Department of Transportation would pay 80 percent, or about $195,000. The city’s portion would be about $49,000.

At least one city councilor has raised concerns about the price. Rick Jones, director of the city’s planning department, said the difficult location and special materials to be used contribute to the cost.

Why? Why does there need to

Why? Why does there need to be a public restroom there. If the state DOT has that much money for a single restroom I don't EVER want to see another closed rest area on the interstate.

Homeless

have a right to, you know, do #1 and #2. And it is government's job to accommodate. Unfortunately the Federal government is responsible for much of the homelessness and unemployment, yet State governments have to take care of the fallout. So let them eat cake, the urinal cakes, that is.....

MOX has cost billions and

MOX has cost billions and billions of dollars already and it is no where near close to producing anything. $244K for a restroom does seem a bit pricey, but at least it has value.

Let's think about this

If a public restroom is built - there will be less arrest for -indecent exposure- or whatever they're calling peeing in the bushes nowadays.

That means less money in fines. Which means somebody is going to be screaming about needing more money.

Hey! I'm just trying to look ahead!
