Augusta-Richmond County is releasing all non-essential staff from work at 2 p.m. today due to inclement weather, according to a news release.

All emergency essential personnel will remain at work through their regular shift, the release said.

Employees should call the emergency notification hotline at (706) 842-3000 for instructions on when to report to work Wednesday.

City garbage collection is expected to continue as usual today. A decision on whether Wednesday pickups will be delayed is expected later tonight, according to Augusta 311 Director Kelli Walker.

If Wednesday garbage collection is delayed, the city will go on a holiday schedule, in which all pickups will be one day later, Walker said.

For more information about closings, contact Augusta 311 in Augusta by dialing 3-1-1.
