WHAT: A deep hole, about 18 inches in diameter, in the middle lane of Reynolds Street. The hole was marked with a single orange barricade for several weeks to alert one-way drivers of the need to change lanes. Last week, orange cones and additional barricades were placed around the hole.

WHO’S RESPONSIBLE: While Reynolds Street is a state route, Augusta Utilities Department is responsible for repairs, Utilities Director Tom Wiedmeier said.

ACTION TAKEN: Wiedmeier on Friday said now that Utilities is aware of the hole, he would have a crew repair the cause, either a sewer line break or a break in a pipe going to a nearby manhole, and patch it starting today.

So the hole has been

So the hole has been barricaded in some form for weeks. Wiedmeirer says on Friday, now that Utilities knows about it, we will get it done today. Well, somebody put the barricades up weeks ago. Wouldn't that have been his department? If not, somebody isn't communicating. Pardon My Mess is a great idea. Funny, when some issue gets a little negative publicity, stuff gets done asap, like it should have been done in the first place.

Am I the only one that finds

Am I the only one that finds it amazing these departments never seem to know about these problems? I realize they can't be expected to know of every hole and problem at every minute in every corner of the county. But, to never once have even an idea of a problem when many times they have already been contacted concerning the problem is a bit troubling.

Saw the hole about 2 months ago.

How long does it take to fix things downtown?

Given all the $$$$ being sucked out of the South Side and into Downtown, the streets should be laid out in GOLD by now.
