Sheriff Richard Roundtree will speak at a District 4 community meeting Wednesday called by District 4 Augusta Commissioner and 2014 mayoral hopeful Alvin Mason.

From 6- 8 p.m. at Diamond Lakes Regional Park Gymnasium, the briefing will cover crime, awareness, prevention and ways citizens can assist the sheriff’s department with fighting crime, according to a news release from the clerk of commission.

“We can no longer sit down and watch Augusta shut down; we have to stand up so that Augusta can stand out,” the release said.

I'd love to come, but the

I'd love to come, but the last time I went to a meeting of this type someone stole some items including my lawnmower that were in my garage, under a tarp, just two hours after I brought the lawnmower to my house, so I'm a bit hesitant about it. I reported it. Never got my stuff back, but I'm pretty sure I know where they went. Also, a neighbor's daughter came to check on him one morning this week, found him sound asleep, but she was alarmed to find there were people in his house helping themselves to his possessions while he slept. Did they call the police? I asked. No. I told them I wished they would. That is four out of five houses adjacent to each other that have been burglarized or home-invaded. I don't want to be the next household. You can't just let things like that go!
