House Bill 439 would allow candidates to submit a certified transcript of the courses they took as a way to comply with the requirement in existing law to prove completion of high school within 30 days of qualifying to run.
Candidates have always been able to submit a GED instead of a diploma.
Howard said he saw the difficulty some candidates had in last year’s election in Richmond County.
“We’re trying to fix that so we don’t run into that again,” he said.
A similar bill is also pending in the House.
