ATLANTA – The McDuffie Board of Education asked Sen. Jesse Stone to have the General Assembly again pass legislation redistricting the board members.

Every law in Georgia that changes voting must receive pre-clearance by the federal government before it can take effect. The review is to safeguard minority voters and prevent laws that would weaken their voting power.
Are we going too far in one direction......Gwinnett county is now having some fluff over their voting system.....
You can not please all...never , ever ...it won't happen......sometimes I feel my vote is diluted....where do I complain.
Can make or break a county...take a look at DeKalb county right now.....
You need some good common sense people on the BOE.
I'm not surprised that the Georgia General Assembly has the power to re-district a county school system; but is the General Assembly the only mechanism to re-district? Can't the McDuffie County School Board do their own re-districting and then submit their own plan to the Justice Department? It would seem that would be the better way to go. Of course, you may have a couple of rogue board members who do not play well with others that led to this appeal to the the Georgia General Assembly. The story does not say.

How does that work in Augusta GA and up in North states?
Or, is it just an old hold over law from the 1960's imposed on Southern States, that now will get updated because whites have become the new minority in many Southern Cities?
