ATLANTA — Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal says he will sign an executive order to suspend six of nine DeKalb County School Board members.

Deal made the announcement Monday although federal judge issued an order temporarily preventing him from replacing board members until after a hearing on Friday.

State education officials recommended suspensions for the board members after a roughly 14-hour meeting on Thursday.

Deal says he will appoint a nominating committee to find replacements for the ousted board members, although they will have 30 days to apply for reinstatement after the executive order is signed.

The DeKalb school system was put on probation through the end of 2013 and risks losing accreditation. An audit of the school system found evidence of fiscal mismanagement and unethical practices.

Clayton and DeKalb counties, Richmond county is headed in the same direction unless voters pay attention to candidates and members of your Board of Education. politicians, for the most part, are in it for personal gain.

RCBOE

The RCBOE is a bed of roses compared to the DeKalb board. Our guys may not always make the best decisions (how many BOEs do?), but at least they're honest and care about our community. And no, I am not naive. RCBOE deserved their recent accredidation from SACS. Success sometimes comes in small increments, and I'm closely nearing the point where I have faith. Roberson and Spivey are pouring their hearts into our school system, and the administrators and teachers know it. Would anyone like to have Larke back?
