Firefighters Daniel Rigdon, Ralph Jenkins, Adam Krebs, Mary Guest and Travis Petrea acted without hesitation upon arriving at the scene of the 527 Carr St. fire to enter the house, locate the child, remove him and perform CPR, officials said.

“They never thought for a moment about not doing what they were trained to do,” Donnie Smith said.

John Thompson, 2, died Sunday at Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

Thank you!

Thank you for your dedicated and selfless service to our community. Please, one of you, educate the Augusta Commission on the word "service".

Is it because of the low pay?

Why do we have ceremonies to reward people for doing their job? Going beyond the job, yes. What are police officers and fire personal paid to do? Polish fire trucks and watch TV. Don't understand the system? Heavy industrial workers put their lives at risk many times during the day. They are paid to manage risks. Public service jobs are paid and decorated for doing public service.

We live in an age where there are no "true heroes". Only reality shows.

It gives the do nothing corrupt politicians an opportunity to stand next to someone who "works for a living"? I, as your king, knight you for grand service. Heavy on the I, your king.

An at-a-boy for the workers and

a sixteen percent raise for the Lord High Sheriff. This is the answer to the awards system. One of the commissioners or a close relative has a trophy business.

Augusta firefighters recognized for efforts

I have known Lt. Ralph Jenkins during his thirty years of service to the Augusta Community.

Lt. Jenkins is not only a good and honorable man, but also the last of a dying breed of true and respected Firefighters.

His dedication to the preservation of life through a job well done has always been unwavering, never seeking recognition, but perpetually the backbone of the service; he, without hesitation cedes commendation quietly.

As is seen in the unfortunate loss of this child, Lt. Jenkins’s heart and soul rides with each alarm upon which he answers.

God bless Lt. Jenkins and the firefighters bravely attempting to save this child.

Lt. L A Williams, Ret.
