Augusta firefighters recognized for efforts to save toddler

Augusta firefighters who pulled a toddler from a burning house Feb. 10 were honored by the Augusta Commission on Tuesday.

Firefighters Daniel Rigdon, Ralph Jenkins, Adam Krebs, Mary Guest and Travis Petrea acted without hesitation upon arriving at the scene of the 527 Carr St. fire to enter the house, locate the child, remove him and perform CPR, officials said.

“They never thought for a moment about not doing what they were trained to do,” Donnie Smith said.

John Thompson, 2, died Sunday at Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
