ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Board of Regents has approved a plan that will mean future University System of Georgia retirees will pay more for their health insurance.

The board made the decision at a meeting Wednesday in Athens, The Athens Banner-Herald reported.

The new policy limiting what the state will pay for retiree health benefits will not affect current employees of the University of Georgia and other Georgia public schools and colleges, officials said. The change will only apply to people hired after Jan. 1, 2013.

Under the new policy, the state will contribute to retirees’ health insurance coverage based on how long a person has worked for the university system when he or she retires.

The policy change should save the university system more than $3 million a year starting in about 10 years, according to system Chancellor Hank Huckaby and Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Marion Ross Fedrick.

The Regents approved the change unanimously without discussion.

Georgia Regents

Why could they not have disapproved the new name for our local colleges without a discussion? Would have made a lot more sense.

Wow ! in 10 years

From the AC article posted on Oct. 11, 2012 9:32 AM.
"The policy change should save the university system more than $3 million a year starting in about 10 years....."

Question:
So what will $3 million be worth in 10 years?
Will cars cost 100k and a loaf of bread $10?
A gallon of Gas (if there is any) $12.50 a gallon?

Do in the mean time how much do they expect grab from the workers over the next 10 years?

What a joke

They don't have any trouble at all making everything cost more of employees but they just can't bring themselves to give us a dime in pay increase, not even a cost of living increase.

So, we get to have our workload continue to increase while our spendable income drops every single year.

What a bunch of princes they are!

Cynical old woman - Recommends name change

Although it rings true.
Sorry to remind you, but once the GA REGENTS make up their minds on a name they won't change it. Even with facts showing otherwise.

This isn't news!

The change will only apply to people hired after Jan. 1, 2013. How many years do you have to work there to be vested in a retirement plan? 3 million in 10 years may be a stretch.

Wow, the liberals claimed

Wow, the liberals claimed Obamacare was going to take care of all us middle class folks. What a darn lie that was, we are going to pay higher premiums and taxes so illegal immigrants and drug dealers can get free health care. It should give us all that warm fuzzy feeling that the local crack dealer is getting free treatment on our dime even though he probably has a trunk full of cash he made illegally and untaxed. All courtesy of Obama and the liberals. And people actually wonder why I consider liberals more of a danger to America than the islamic terrorists!
