The Augusta-Richmond County Committee for Good Government will hold a forum for candidates in several local elections – and vote on its preferred candidates – Tuesday at the Julian Smith Casino Barbecue Pit.

All candidates running for the Districts 1 and 8 school board seats, Augusta Commission Districts 1, 3, 7 and 9 seats, state court solicitor, sheriff, probate judge, district attorney, state House District 125 and state Senate 23 will be allowed three minutes to speak before the committee’s vote.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at 3 Milledge Road.

Meaningful

You cannot say anything meaningful about your beliefs in three minutes. Oh, sure, you can say you're fiscally conservative and you will pave the roads and fill in the potholes while not raising taxes. But everyone will say that, so what's the point of having three minute speeches?
