Georgia Sen. Bill Jackson said Thursday that he intends to run for re-election.

The announcement came during a Columbia County Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting, which hosted the county’s state legislative delegation to discuss the recent legislative session.

Jackson, a Republican from Appling, represents District 24, which includes Columbia, Lincoln, Elbert, Glascock, McDuffie, Warren and Wilkes counties.

During this year’s session, Jackson belonged to the Appropriations, Economic Development, Education and Youth, Ethics, Natural Resources and the Environment, Reapportionment and Redistricting, and Transportation committees.

A businessman, Jackson has served 21 years in the state Legislature, in both the House and Senate.
