The Augusta Land Bank Authority on Thursday authorized the sale of 15 parcels to the church for $392,400.
The parcels – 12 on Wrightsboro Road, one on 12th Street and two on 13th Street – adjoin the church’s property on Wrightsboro Road, said land bank Director Norman Michael.
Although zoning and building permits haven’t been obtained, the church plans to demolish everything on the tracts and build 12 to 14 single-family housing units, he said.
Calls to the Augusta church were not returned.
Proceeds from the sale go back into bond financing obtained for the neighborhood redevelopment initiative, he said.
Also on Thursday, the authority voted to settle an action with a developer in the Dover-Lyman neighborhood if the developer, RTG Investments, agrees to proceed with plans to remodel a house on Miles Street.
RTG obtained the house and numerous others in a bank sale, but the seller failed to perform an adequate title search that would have revealed the land bank also had recently foreclosed on the Miles Street residence, Michael said.
A single-family home was built on a lot next door, and the land bank hopes the area will be redeveloped into single-family homes for purchase, rather than multifamily rentals, he said.
RTG had threatened to abandon plans at another parcel it owns if the land bank refused to pay its asking price for the Miles tract, land bank attorney John Manton said.
