The day’s itinerary indicates that more than three dozen area officials will participate, including Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver, Georgia Health Sciences University President Ricardo Azziz, Augusta State University Vice President Jeff Foley and Richmond County Board of Education President Alex Howard.
The day includes group meetings with Gov. Nathan Deal, Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Keith Golden, University System Vice Chancellor Steve Wrigley and other state officials.
The topics of discussion are likely to include the new regional sales tax for transportation, lifting a sales tax on energy used for manufacturing, the education of military children and the former Golf and Gardens property in Augusta, according to the itinerary.
The Augusta Metro and Columbia County chambers of commerce support passage of the regional 1 percent sales tax for transportation, it says. The measure goes before voters later this year.
