Fight over Magnolia Trace to continue

  • Follow Government

A resolution for residents near a proposed “affordable housing” development in Martinez might come this year.

Columbia County commissioners agreed in December to hire a lawyer to investigate if the Magnolia Trace development on Old Ferry Road might legally be halted after hundreds of homeowners neighboring the 15-acre property protested the development and the commission’s allowing it.

Commissioners initially offered their support for the project with a resolution submitted to the state Department of Community Affairs on behalf of Magnolia Trace developers in June 2010.

The commission has since hired attorney Patrick O’Connor, with the Oliver Maner firm in Savannah, to seek a legal recourse to stop construction.

O’Connor has refused to comment on the case.
