Mayor Deke Copenhaver plans to reintroduce for vote Tuesday an Augusta Commission code of conduct last approved three years ago.

The one-page code emphasizes cooperation and positive action by the mayor and 10 commissioners, and was last readopted by the commission March 20, 2009.

Copenhaver did not return phone calls seeking an explanation for the request.

Commission members frequently disagreed in strong terms on a variety of agenda items during 2011.

Tuesday’s short meeting agenda also includes a presentation by local businessman Joey Hadden about the effect of closing the U.S. Postal Service mail processing facility on Eighth Street.

Hadden said he’ll describe the impact on local businesses of shutting down the facility and rerouting mail to Macon.

Also Tuesday, the commission is expected to delete an agenda item related to a proposed Laney-Walker overlay district.

The measure must be officially dismissed so city offices can move forward with re-submitting applications for the district, Planning and Development Director George Patty said.

Three appointments to Richmond County Hospital Authority also go before the commission Tuesday. They include the authority’s Catholic faith, medical staff and at-large positions.

"Copenhaver did not return phone calls seeking an explanation for the request."

I can help you find him. Since this idea of having everyone agree to cooperate is somewhat controversial, checkout Fripp Island. He usually turns off his phone and heads there at the first sign of conflict.

Appoint me to that thing. Heck, I'll even turn Catholic to get that position. I'll do my level best to ensure University Hospital starts giving profits back to the country as they should be doing instead of passing them out in hidden ways to the private groups.

I mean I could be on that

I mean I could be on that authority. I can clean up enough to go to meetings. I'll take off my backwards Clemson hat, sober up, shave, change T-shirts and shower with soap to get on that authority. My avowed purpose would be to expose where all the money goes at University Hospital. The Commissioners and public are hoodwinked.

@Riverman1, you my friend are

@Riverman1, you my friend are wide open on this article. You and I would probably agree that the so called 'Code of Conduct' isn't even thinkable even if it is enacted!
