Because of security considerations as the 10th anniversary of 9-11 approaches, a heightened level of Force Protection at Fort Gordon went into effect Monday.

While no direct threat has been determined, this action will require an increased level of inspection at installation entry gates as well as added vigilance by all Fort Gordon personnel, a news release announced.

Those entering the installation should allow extra time for travel to appointments and other activities. This action will remain in effect until further notice, the news release said.

Can someone tell me why we

Can someone tell me why we refer to 9/11 as an anniversary? the term anniversary is used to refer to joyous occasions such as marriages and things of the sort. what happened that day is nothing to "remember" or "commemorate" as the pain will forever live on in those affected.

It was a sad and tragic day but a day that we need to move forward and not look back and reopen old wounds.

For example, if your entire family was murdered during a home invasion, would you want to call it an anniversary on that day every year? The pain will be with you forever but no need to stir up that emotion every year.

blakkone do you have another

blakkone do you have another word instead of anniversary?

By definition the word anniversary means: the annually recurring date of a past event, especially one of historical, national, or personal importance.

It's true people associate the word with wedding but it has more than one use i.e. noun or adjective.
