North Augusta official takes job with utility

Sam Bennett taking job in Charleston area

NORTH AUGUSTA - City Administrator Sam Bennett has announced that he will leave to work as the manager of economic development with Santee Cooper in Moncks Corner, S.C.

Bennett said his last day with the city will be Sept. 30.

"It was an opportunity that presented itself to work with Santee Cooper," he said. "It is a great organization."

Bennett started his career near Moncks Corner in Goose Creek as the assistant city manager, where he worked with economic development . He has been the city administrator for North Augusta since 2007.

Santee Cooper is the state-owned electric and water utility and South Carolina's largest producer of power.

"North Augusta has been a blessing to myself and my family and is a great place to be," Bennett said. "It's not an easy decision to leave; there is nowhere else I'd want to be a city administrator other than North Augusta."
