Bennett said his last day with the city will be Sept. 30.
"It was an opportunity that presented itself to work with Santee Cooper," he said. "It is a great organization."
Bennett started his career near Moncks Corner in Goose Creek as the assistant city manager, where he worked with economic development . He has been the city administrator for North Augusta since 2007.
Santee Cooper is the state-owned electric and water utility and South Carolina's largest producer of power.
"North Augusta has been a blessing to myself and my family and is a great place to be," Bennett said. "It's not an easy decision to leave; there is nowhere else I'd want to be a city administrator other than North Augusta."
