NORTH AUGUSTA - North Augusta Department of Public Safety was given the OK to spend $743,978 from the capital projects fund to buy an 800-megahertz radio system.
The system will let the city operate on the same station as surrounding areas and get faster response when help is needed.
On Monday, the city council reviewed changes in the cost of renovating the old municipal building and decided to spend $89,000 more from the capital projects fund. The original amount set aside was $562,000, but mold was discovered.
They need a radio system to write traffic tickets? Why dont they just hire the Augusta DDA since they are close to the action.
Wow, this is horrible. Sounds like someone with no clue of the material threw this together.
Reading between the lines, it appears North Augusta is buying into the Palmetto system that the rest of the county, much of the state of SC, and Augusta-Richmond county are already using. How about "North Augusta approves new radio system".. or "North Augusta OK's upgraded radio system" (since they already have radios). There is nothing "powerful" about it.
Also, "The system will let the city operate on the same station as surrounding areas" .. This isn't a radio "station", it's a "system". Watching "Smokey and the Bandit" just once would clear up this confusion.
It would have taken no more than 5 minutes to ask the correct person a few questions to explain what almost $750,000 is buying North Augusta. This could have been a nice piece on the benefits of North Augusta finally moving to the Palmetto system, and what it means to both public safety and the citizens.
Years ago, someone at AC would have made something like this into a real story and not another one of these useless "Facebook wall posts" that we're getting more and more. Sad.
Maybe because they do more than write traffic tickets. They respond and assist with medical calls, sometimes even driving ambulances if need be. Going to the 800 system is going to be a HUGE help to EMS.
Heap Big Property Tax Increase ahead. WAS thinking about buying another North Augusta River home but i think i'll wait to see how bad this burns up all the property tax payers hard earned money and buy it at a foreclosure or a tax sale ha ahahhaha.
They should spend this money hiring real police officers. There have been 4 armed robberies which have gone unsolved, last week they had a house surrounded with hostages, and the guy got away.
